I came here almost 5 weeks ago for my planned C-section, and let me tell you, I was terrified. I've never had surgery, and the whole thought of being awake during it was so scary to me. But the labor and delivery staff made me feel SO COMFORTABLE. I had the best experience, I'm hoping for my next baby to be a C-section. The recovery was rough, but the whole process was smooth, easy, and they made sure i was comfortable and not in pain the two days I stayed. The lactation consultant was also a huge help with teaching me how to get my baby latched on correctly to breastfeed. Overall I loved the whole experience. We will definitely be back with our next baby.
Overall, my experience with Kaiser has been wonderful. This review is specifically about my Labor & Delivery experience a couple months ago. I gave birth to my daughter this past June and although it was a rough induction-turned-delivery 55 hours of labor, 5-day hospital stay, it went well. The nurses were AMAZING and I love the OBGYNs who assisted: Dr. Justin Hutchinson my OB and Dr. Kathy Tom present during delivery. No complaints about any of them. Dr. Tom was a huge reason why I didn't end up getting a C-section. I wasn't, however, impressed with the midwives. My husband, family and I all felt they seemed to have an "ego" and were very pushy with terrible bedside manner. A couple of them made me feel like I wasn't doing enough and one of them even said she was going to be a "b***h" to me in order to help me progress. Very unprofessional! I was already in enough pain and exhausted no pain meds due to a failed epidural. I love Kaiser and will continue to be a patient, but the next time I have a baby I will be requesting OBs only due to my negative experience with multiple midwives.
Currently a patient, day 2 post-op and Kaiser thinks it's cool to have maintenance workers banging and drilling until 1 AM in the morning. These were not emergent repairs, but as long as they can get heads in beds who cares. Been a nurse over 30 years and never seen such disregard for patient rest. Guess my ear plugs and sleep mask they gave were supposed to make it better.
I was just a visitor but all the nursing staff & even the janitorial personnel were very helpful & friendly. I showed up to old friends floor / room @ 12:15 am & they allowed me in & was even allowed to stay overnight w/ an old friend just to keep her calm & comfortable w/ out any questions. They brought in a pillow & blankets before they even asked me if I wanted them as well as asking me if I need any thing to drink or snack that they could bring me since cafeteria was obviously closed. I would have had to leave hospital property in order for me to get food or drink other then water if they didn't ask. Staff made me feel very welcomed/comfortable which is not very common is a "hospital" environment
If you’re pregnant, try your hardest to go else where. The prenatal department is horrible. Dayana Lopez-Peguero MA she is the one that makes appointments, she is beyond rude. She falsifies documentation to protect her job. On my chart note from my appointment she wrote that I was declining and yelling when that wasn’t the case. She called and stated they didn’t have an appointment for the current month and I would have to be seen the next month. Asked if I declined an appointment for this month… asked how I was able to decline if there was nothing to offer. She was actually the one that started lecturing me about missing an appointment for the month prior. When I advised her I went to the appointment, you could tell she didn’t review my chart..as she quickly did stated “oh, well that’s not us that’s the other side” I’m a high risk pregnancy. I reported to the same department, just walked into a different door. I looked at my app and there wasn’t an apt set for their side. When I told her she was frustrating me by her accusations and the lack of communication from this department she replied rudely then you can talk to my manager who has never contacted me and she hung up on me. I reviewed my chart notes from the appointment and they are made up. I hope she knows that it’s illegal to lie on chart notes. As for the rest of the department they do not have structure and their communication skills are poor. They also never sign orders, and the poor lab has to constantly contact the department and tell them to have them sign… which makes the lab appearance a lot longer. I’ll be requesting to speak to the department lead and due to the nature I will be delivering at another hospital if they can not correct their errors and correct my delivery date to what has been document. Added note your set ob is not your delivery doctor. They are by on call delivery only. Kaiser offers midwives, which doesn’t mean anything due to they are not in there with you and it’s still on call. As I was informed by my ob also I’ve read the review about “Deborah” the person that replies to the reviews. I’m not interested in your reply this will be actually addressed due to legal matters that this department is creating and is time sensitive.
I have to give the Kaiser team their flowers. I went to the emergency room with symptoms of Appendicitis. Within 20 minutes, I was seen by Dr. Gurvijay Singh Bains. He was so nice and got me the appropriate tests, leading to a timely diagnosis of my problem. Everyone who assisted me with these tests was amazing. From the gentleman that took my blood, to the awesome and caring nurse who guided me all the way through I think her name was Janet?, Christian who took my CT scan, Shawn who did my Ultrasound, the anesthesiologist, Dr. Cara Franken who performed my surgery, and the sweet nurses in post-op, David and Patrick!! Thank you guys so much for taking such great care of me!
My mother is currently a patient here for a surgery and I’ve just heard that she’s been left to lay in her pee for over an hour, had her already planned out meals messed with and changed to liquid by someone who is not her doctor and hasn’t even been seen by and was told by a nurse after having her medication changed again that “I hope you don’t stop breathing.” I don’t know what kind of hospital feels it’s even remotely alright to treat people this way. These are not medical professionals, these are high school bullies with a superiority complex.
The One star is for communication & the staff's bad attitude! The Modesto Kaiser staff, both medical & and office, are the worst in communication. If your loved one is placed on a bed in the ER hallway, the medical staff will note "patient does not want visitors" to keep family out!-Falsified documentation!! They provide minimal to no update on the status of your family member in ER or OR... "call the extention... the charge nurse will call you!... Didn't I tell you the charge nurse will have to call you!" Then, the call will be from an out of state number! Surely expected, not! Then there's their form of translators that can't get it straight! Also, the surgeon "Dr. Twin" fails to communicate with his wife about the need/risks/benefits of surgery, & post surgery, & provide required forms, but fortunately, by God's grace, the surgery was a success!
The wait too get seen after entering the Emergency side of the building was pretty average. However after being guided to Section B it was just flat out awful. Only one or two people ever knew what they were doing meanwhile the rest of them were just there for their college credits Overheard them talking about it. Unfortunately I couldn't see his name tag but the male nurse in particular was 100% more interested in talking and flirting than he actually was doing his job. Would talk to patients only to tell them he would be back..... He never checked up on any of them. Waited over an hour for meds he said he would bring. The ONLY thing I have seen them do on time is ask patients if they want to pay now or get billed for later....
I am not a Kaiser Member so their Occupational Health is the face of Kaiser to me. It’s also not my first rodeo with them. Dr Nebel is awful. There is never any follow through. You are treated as a number and not a person. She responds to questions asked such as “will you have reviewed the PT notes by my next appointment” with “of course”. However she hadn’t and in fact didn’t even have them. The ER discharge wanted me to see an orthopedic doc within 3 days for my fractured & dislocated patella but she scheduled over my objection the first consult 12 days from accident. She does try very hard to keep you Kaiser captive but with her lack of follow through & quality care that is the LAST thing I was willing to do. She would not even send me my work slip via my email for a video visit causing me to go there anyway AND did not follow through will providing it to my employer as she stated she would do. Her exams just go through the motions. She does not even examine my knee straightened just barely touches it bent. She does more selling Kaiser than she does caring for you. I will NEVER opt for Kaiser care based on this and my past experience with Kaiser Occupational Health and will certainly continue to share my negative experience with others
