The Lincoln /County Food Bank opened its doors in July, 1986 by a concerned group of local citizens.
OUR MISSION
Ruidoso Schools report a large percentage of their students qualify for free lunch due to low income. In New Mexico, 1 out of 3 children go to bed hungry each night. Many of our residents face the dilemma of deciding whether to buy food, buy medicine, or pay utilities for they cannot pay for all.
Unforeseen circumstances create emergency situations where supplemental food becomes vital. In 2014, the Lincoln County Food Bank provided a box of basic food items to 3,781 families representing 9,870 individuals. In 2013, we provided 3,325 boxes representing 8,054 individuals.
That number has increased every year since we opened. With more donations, we can serve more clients.
People who request food bank assistance are asked to verify their residence in Lincoln County or Mescalero on their initial visit and bring a photo ID on each subsequent visit. Qualifying residents may receive a box of food every 30 days. A card is maintained on file for each client who is served through our food bank. Each client is treated with courtesy and respect by our dedicated volunteers.
We maintain a bulletin board which displays materials covering such topics as reading literacy, locations serving free meals and free pet neutering, community services, and a list of other food banks. Another bulletin board is available for clients to post jobs they are seeking or skills and services they are offering as a means of employment.
