The Schools Action Team (SAT) of the Building Healthy Communities Eastern Coachella Valley (BHCECV) seeks to achieve positive school climate in CVUSD.
The Schools Action Team (SAT) of the Building Healthy Communities Eastern Coachella Valley (BHCECV) initiative exists to collaboratively and strategically achieve a vision in which community members are healthy, active, and powerful. The SAT seeks to achieve this vision by collaboratively identifying and pursuing changes in systems and policies that have historically created, maintained, or ignored serious deficiencies and injustices in accessing quality education in the Eastern Coachella Valley, namely in the Coachella Valley Unified School District (CVUSD).
To put it another way, the SAT seeks to improve or change existing systems and policies such that Eastern Coachella Valley community members, including parents, guardians, and students, experience an adequate and healthy school climate focusing on building strong relationships based on respect and responsibility. Currently, the SAT is primarily focused on priority campaign actions that will improve the school climate at Bobby Duke Middle School through the implementation of a Restorative Justice pilot. The SAT’s substantive campaign goals are inextricably linked to parallel capacity-building goals that aim to increase the capacity of Eastern Coachella Valley residents to design and execute strategic, collaborative, and vision-driven campaigns for change.
The current mission of the Schools Action team is to achieve the development and adoption of a school climate policy that includes Restorative Justice and Trauma-Informed practices by which the CVUSD collaboratively responds to and plans for the implementation at all schools in the district.
