Labor and delivery: the receptionist wasn't welcoming. But the delivery team was amazing. The nurses and midwives were very helpful. One of the nurses Jill is her name I think was top on the list. Her dedication to her work and neatness were here identity. She made our day beautiful. There was another relatively old nurses who mad our evening full of stars. She made us really comfortable. I dont remember her name. Maternity: The first encounter with the nurses was uncomfortable. One of them even tried to undermine pain. Special gratitude to nurse Grace who changed everything. She knew what she was doing. She address so many areas where the first two didn't even care to listen.
I had brain surgery in January and had Covid too! I truly got the best care! The best doctors, nurses, nurses aides, everyone took excellent care of me! I made a complete recovery!!! Thank You Jesus and all the staff including food service the food was fabulous in both hospitals and cleaning staff too. For rehab I was sent to Kenmore Mercy and all was excellent there too!!! The physical therapists and everyone was wonderful!!! The Catholic healthcare system is wonderful!!! They definitely work as a team!!! In the midst of the worst crisis too! I was truly blessed!!! Thank you all!!! Unfortunately I’ve been in too many hospitals in my life and I can’t say the same for the others…
Ok so let’s start from the beginning, I walked in with my sister she had red eye she was coughing very hard every 1-2 minutes the girl in the front desk was working with other person she took 10 minutes it’s fine I was calm but not my sister. Finally our time came she told us to fill the paper right away pov. Wow it must be fast nice. WELL I WAS WRONG! I filled out the paper with sister waited for a hour to get called and when we did get called they asked 2-3 questions in one room. After the question they “said we will find you a room :” wait in the lobby. We waited for 2-3 hour my sister told me let’s go home” I said five more minutes! She said ok. After five minutes later no call, I just walked out and went home. This place is good at treating people but bad at managing time and finding room for people who are in need. Next time I will just find another place to go to. Thanks for the experience. I came around 11:30 pm and left at 2:30am pictured
Receptionists were extremely rude, as were the triage nurses. One raised her voice at me when I said I felt like I was going to pass out and also refused to give me any water. I had a heart rate of 180 bpm at the time, light headed, and barely able to talk. The actual doctor and the nurses once I received a room were super understanding.
RE: Thank you, if you read further I already called. There was no accountability. If more time & resources were put into fixing review complaints Mercy would have a higher rating. _ I’m a firm believer in empathy & compassion, you never know what someone is going through & we’re all just doing our best. When giving a critical review I always factor in the positives & rate with a fair average. I say this so you’ll understand just how horrible a business has to be for me to give a one star rating. The only positive was the triage nurse. She was a sweet, kind, comforting person & had she been my Dr this would be a very different review. Prior to this I’d been very unwell, with one of my symptoms being consistent abdominal pain. I was seeing my PCP & a gastroenterologist. Labs/tests were being done, but in the meantime they advised I go to the ER if the pain worsened. I questioned for a while if the pain was bad enough but when I ended up sobbing in the fetal position on the floor at 2am it seemed apparent. I got dressed & we went to Mercy. After taking my blood pressure I was brought to a triage room where I was separated from my husband, which is their policy but a curious policy for someone so in pain they can’t think. He, aside from being a comfort while in pain, would have been the one to know which medications were given when. When the Dr finally came in I answered the first question. They stared at me for a while before repeating, “I SAID do you smoke?” Clearly we weren’t off to a good start. I shared what had been going on but they interrupted to ask why I was there that night, saying we could get into the history later. I did my best to answer as they continued asking questions. “So what exactly are you hoping to accomplish by being here?” To feel better? I answered, unsure if they were actively trying to be rude. Why else would I be at the ER in the middle of the night? “What tests are you hoping I’ll run?” I stared blankly before replying I wasn’t trying to be sh**ty but don’t know what tests exist because I’m not a Dr. Their disposition shifted a bit & they said what couldn’t be done offering a referral & what could, but said tests were unlikely to do more than was already being done. They left the room, I felt invalidated & frustrated. I decided to leave, whether to another hospital or home, as I had no interest in being under their care. I was nice, signed paperwork, & left. It was found that in addition to my previous issues I had a GI infection as well as mono, which carries the risk of a swollen spleen that can potentially rupture. Thankfully I had better, faster care from kinder doctors. I received a bill in the mail & called their “patient representative” This is the number you see commented under every bad review apologizing & asking to call. Since I left without receiving care I felt it was fair to contest the bill. They said I’d hear back. When I did, a letter informed me they concluded their investigation, there was no wrongdoing & I was fully responsible for the amount due. I was upset but thought if $130 is the cost of a lesson learned & never having to deal with them again so be it. I called & paid. I started getting outstanding balance texts, apparently the ER department/ER physician are billed by different companies. So I had another bill to pay. Without insurance it would have been $1,352 for the “care” I received. I decided if it meant being done with them for good, fine. I’d done what I could & didn't need my credit ruined over their incompetence. I’ve been to Mercy before but after this I fully understand their low rating. I wouldn’t go back if my life depended on it. Also there was blood soaked gauze sitting on the waiting room floor when we arrived that was still there when we left hours later. The triage ceiling had spatter stains & a thick layer of dust with pieces falling. The exam table had visible residue I accidentally touched & when trying to use sanitizer I found it was either empty or not working.
I had surgery to remove my gallbladder 9 days ago. I had no prior experience with Mercy Hospital, but had a couple friends who said they had a good experience. Anyway, I was taken to the pre-op area and my nurse Debbie did the pre-op work up, taking information about meds etc. and explaining what would happen. She was very kind, thorough and professional. After a brief wait, I was taken to the surgical area where I met with the anesthesiologist & his assistant. All the staff in this area were kind and efficient. My surgery went well and I was released shortly afterward that same day, as expected. Thankfully my recuperation is going smoothly. I had a very good experience at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo. Thanks to the staff and Dr. Scarbinsky who is excellent.
Came into their “emergency room” with a cut finger needing stitches. Couldn’t stop the bleeding. Absolutely 0 urgency from anyone in this “emergency” room. I am on 4 and a half hours of waiting. How and why?? I am not waiting for a sandwich
I would like to take the time in saying that I had both of my Children here. One of them being in NICU for an entire month. He was 2 months early nothing wrong with him at all he just wanted to come early as they had said The NICU staff was so pleasing and made us feel very comfortable with him in their care . I was in labor for 3 days , when I arrived at Mercy they wanted to transfer me to sisters because they knew I was going to have him early. Little did they know that within 30 minutes of me being there I was going to have them. I’m super happy we weren’t transferred and so very pleased with the whole outcome of it all. It was truly an incredible experience that I will never forget
Went in with a severe asthma attack and literally could not breathe. They made me wait for 2 hours before being seen and that was after my husband had to speak to the nurse because I was having a panic attack at that point thinking I was going to die. Then they took me back to a triage room where they left me alone for an hour in agony before giving me a breathing treatment and chest xray. Waited another 4 hours to be told I had the flu but that the chest xray did not show pneumonia. They sent me home even though I still could not 100 percent get air into my lungs. 20 minutes after getting home, I had another severe asthma attack where my inhaler, again, was not helping. My husband ended taking me to another hospital that admitted me immediately upon seeing me because I was having a life threatening EMERGENCY. Turns out Mercy's x-ray was WRONG. I have pneumonia in BOTH of my lungs ontop of the flu. I have been in a much better hospital that cares about their patients going on 5 days receiving breathing treatments every 3 hours, antibiotics and steroids and fluids through an IV around the clock. Mercy hospital could have killed me and left my baby girl on this earth without a mother. I cannot stress enough how much I do not recommended Mercy to anyone.
Was thinking of moving to Buffalo, but after reading these reviews, that's a huge NO. To the administration, what's the patient services line going to do? Paper pushing! Glad you're responsive online, but it doesn't seem like you're making real changes. Honestly, filling out PAPER WORK? Does Fred Flinstone work here? I guess Barney Rubble does triage? Come on it's 2022, get with it. I believe a 1yr old can make real changes. Hell, I'll come through. This is a horrible system you have set up...Keystone Cops. Are you really listening to your patients? Your brand really is zero stars. You are staying consistent with other local hospitals, but that's not saying much.
