This was a trip of our life for my wife. She was finally able to mark it off her bucket list. We had a great day learning about the monument building process. If you have a chance to visit there I would highly recommend it. Don't forget to watch the movies they have put forget detaining the construction history and the detailed processes. When you receive your ticket to enter the parking structure be sure to take it with you so you can pay for your parking at several places around the site. They also have elevators to move between floors Restrooms: Very clean restrooms
Mount Rushmore is bigger than I realized. The National Park Service has created an incredible place to view it. If you are able to explore, it's a lot more than just viewing the monument. However, to explore much more than the monument you need to be able to climb stairs. It's on the side of a mountain in a way. They have well groomed and organized paths but there will be some up and down you need to do. I would suggest going under the main platform for viewing where there is a museum. Then if looking at the monument on the platform go right, down a path to see the original model used to sculpt the monument. If you only do those three things it will be worth it.
This is a National Treasure! We stayed in Keystone so it was super convenient to drive to. Parking is $10 but the pass is good for a year. We watched the sunrise, walked the Presidential Trail, visited the sculptor’s hut and returned in the evening for the lighting ceremony. That is a must see and includes a military honor at the end for those who served.
I mean I don't know how you cannot give this place five stars Like it's one of those things where you walk up to it and you're not really expecting its glory and then it's all there and I understand that this was produced on land that was native and whatnot but it still a beautiful thing and and I know that they show that a lot of respect now to the natives in the area. But I think it was absolutely worth the 7-hour detour that we took on our trip across United States to see this. I'm glad that I did.
This is a memorial to American icons. Plain and simple. It is big and impressive and patriotic and all the things we are good at here in America. Seeing it in person is a moving experience, but it is crowded and hot in the summer. It is a must-see for anyone traveling through the Black Hills.
We went to Rushmore for the twilight "lighting ceremony." If you're into patriotic ceremony, this is about as good as it gets short of a funeral at Arlington. The visitor center and parking are all well maintained and what you would expect from a high profile attraction like this. I'm glad we went for the lighting, as the memorial itself isn't as impressive as you might imagine to just "look at." Playground: No playground here. Restrooms: Multiple well maintained restrooms onsite. Dog-friendliness: NOT dog friendly.
From the moment I caught my first glimpse of the massive granite sculptures, I was completely captivated. The sheer scale and intricate details of the four presidential faces carved into the mountainside left me in awe. The craftsmanship and artistry displayed in the monument are nothing short of remarkable. The visitor center provided an excellent starting point for my exploration. It offered a wealth of information about the history and significance of Mount Rushmore, as well as the vision and dedication required to bring this masterpiece to life. The exhibits were engaging and educational, deepening my appreciation for the monument and its place in American history. One of the highlights of my visit was the Presidential Trail, which allowed me to get up close and personal with the monument. Walking along the well-maintained path, I had the opportunity to admire the colossal sculptures from various angles, revealing different perspectives of their grandeur. The trail also offered breathtaking views of the surrounding Black Hills, adding to the overall beauty of the experience. Another aspect that impressed me was the commitment to preserving the natural environment surrounding Mount Rushmore. The park's efforts to maintain the serenity and ecological balance were evident throughout my visit. The landscape was beautifully maintained, and the interpretive signs along the trails provided valuable insights into the local flora and fauna.
It's just nice. There's a nice trail around the mount that you can walk, and read about the presidents and such. Lots of stairs, so be forewarned. It's a very nice place to find out the history of this country. On the benches, it shows exactly what states joined the union in what order and what year. If you like American history, it's a must see place!
We stopped in here to see the famous scupture! Parking was $10 for the day, and there no other costs to get in. We watched the video on the making of the stone carvings, and I recommend it. From a blind standpoint, the exhibits were just too dark. I wasn't able to use any light to just move around comfortably with my cane. So I waited in the hallway for my family to get done. This is the reason for 4 out of 5 stars. There are lots of stairs to get up to the area. Once up there, you can use an elevator to get to the museum/exhibit area. Stroller friendly. The gift shop was nice! And they serve ice cream! If this review helps you, please give us a thumbs up! #crazykleinadventure
Our family had so much fun going here!!! There is a beautiful trail you can walk, but there are lots of stairs on the trail, so it's not stroller friendly or good for people with knee or back problems. But, we spent a few hours here and LOVED it. Our kids are 17, 12, 10, 7, 6, and 20 months. They all loved it, and we all walked the trail fine, my husband holding the baby, of course. Restrooms: Lots of places to take bathroom stops.
