This place is amazing! So much to do! We spent 5 hours here and didn't get to enjoy the inside because there's just that much to do! My kids under five loved the dinosaur trail, train and all the natural playgrounds! The butterfly enclosure was wonderful as well! The food was very good, pricey but actually worth the money. We spent most of the time outside, which for us, was a plus! Also, there are restrooms EVERYWHERE! A huge plus in this family. Very clean. We went on a weekday so it wasn't crowded. We enjoyed every bit of it and can't wait to return
Really great place to bring the whole family. There are tons of exhibits both indoor and out. Bathrooms are readily available throughout the outdoor exhibits as well. Everything is clean, well kept, and cared for. All paths are wide and paved, easy for strollers/wheelchairs. There are also many water fountains and water bottle refill stations. You can bring your own food with you, and eat outside at the picnic tables. There are some misting stations outside as well, which will help cool you down if it gets hot. There is a bathroom right across from the sand and water exhibit, and one changing station as well. This place is worth the trip, and the price.
Love it here been twice so far love my membership .. weekdays are much more calmer and best for parents with smaller children like our baby just wanting to explore. The weekends are a much bigger crowd. But both times we truly enjoyed ourselves and our goddaughter loved it ALL! Especially the playground! She was nervous in the butterfly exhibit and an older gentlemen worker was great support. Letting her know there was nothing to be afraid of. There’s usually a worker you can find at each exhibit that you can ask questions which is a benefit. As an adult i enjoyed the lemurs, butterflies and bears the most. We easily spent 2-3 hours here and still have so much to explore! Will be back!
Have been coming here since I was kid, and it just keeps getting better. $23 for adults. You can easily spend 4 hours here and enjoy every minute. Incredible amount of wildlife from Black Bears...to a Copperhead...to Poison Dart Frogs...to Walking Leaf Insects they will blow you away. When you walk in, definitely buy a train ticket. 1.5 mile loop that goes around twice. Coffee Shop inside...Butterfly House you can walk-through. Treehouse exhibit outside that is a wow factor. Have fun and take your time!
Nice science museum, especially for kids to play and learn. The museum has both indoor and outdoor components. Some cool space related exhibits and lots of hands on learning activities. The outdoor part has some hiking trails and the dinosaur walks. They also have a neat butterflies greenhouse. Museum cafes, brewery, coffee, and gift shop are available. Free to Durham residents on certain dates with proof of residence
Wow what a great museum. This was one of the best museums we've been to. We 2 kids and 2 adults went on a Sunday. The parking lots were filling up quickly and we got there a little after 10am. There was no line for the tickets though. We actually didn't have to pay anything because of membership to a different museum in Virginia so that was quite surprising. Most of the museum was outside, lots of walking for the little ones but I saw lots of families who were prepared with strollers or wagons. Wear comfortable shoes and sunscreen if you go in the warmer months. We brought waters and some small snacks. There is at least one restaurant in there were you can buy snacks. The kids had so much fun and we could have spend another day here. Just to highlight a few things. The kids 5 & 7 loved the tree houses. The waterplay area is also very fun bring a change of clothes for the kids. The life animals were cool to look at, the little bear looked a bit sad but he is just getting used to the environment. I enjoyed the butterfly house. We enjoyed the inside part as well, lots of hand on things to do in there. All in all it was a great time. There are plenty of bathrooms and water fountains were you can fill up your water bottle.
We love the Museum of Life and Science! So many amazing exhibits to explore and learn. Hours of fun inside and outside. My daughter loves the butterflies and the dinosaurs. Can’t get enough of Earth Moves and Into The Mist. Totally worth the membership!Visited onWeekdayWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedYes
This "museum" is amazing. It's like a children's museum, science museum, and nature center all rolled into one. There are indoor exhibits reminiscent of a science center weather, rockets, live animals! but the real gem is the outdoor track. There is about a mile loop chock full of awesome stuff for kids like treehouses, fossil digging, live bears and wolf's, barnyard animals, butterfly house, RC sailboats, smoke ring makers and much, much more. Many things like the seed dropper that I have never seen before. The dinosaur trail was a real highlight with the kids. Must see if you or in Durham or, like us, driving through.
So much to do for kids of all ages, more than you could cover in a single day. The indoor exhibits were really fun and educational check out the moon lander! but outdoor was our favorite! Treehouse play area, bears and lemurs, huge splash pad beach area, dinosaur trail, mist area was really cool too. Can't list it all, but totally worth exploring!
Loved all of the exhibits the area with the tree houses was closed. The bugs, wolves, butterfly house were awesome. Bears were sleeping. Kids loved the playground by the visitor center, the mist pad, the sailboat pond. Everything was clean, easy to walk around, lovely walking space.
