We went there on a Sunday and it wasn’t crowded. We enjoyed our time walking around the garden. There are drinks at the entrance and they give you a map to guide you. There’s this pretty swing attached to a tree that was very relaxing to sit under and just breathe. It’s a place to help you relax and not think too much. Totally enjoyed my time here with nature. I didn’t get to see any butterflies though and there was supposed to be a garden of them. The city park as a whole is beautiful. If you’re into nature And all that
Every place I visit, I always check out their botanical garden/conservatory/arboretum. This one is smaller than most, but absolutely stunning. I loved the conservatory! The flowering orchids were stunning. I also enjoyed all of the sculptures. Definitely worth the $12 entry fee. Spent around 1.5 hours & saw everything but the kids area. If you have kids, they would absolutely play all day over there!
Reached there almost at the last moment. The $12 per person entrance fee was worth it. So many diverse attractions - from serene Japanese gardens to vibrant rose gardens, lovely koi ponds, fountains, and captivating sculptures. The highlight is the glass-domed greenhouse- "Conservatory of the Two Sisters", with its Living Fossils and prehistoric plant life exhibit. A butterfly-shaped bench in the butterfly walk garden adds a unique touch. Perfect for nature enthusiasts!
So beautiful, the gardens/grounds are very well maintained. A lot to see here. Quiet and peaceful. Great place to spend a few hours outdoors. Would recommend going earlier in the morning or later after to avoid the super hot sun this time of year. They do have drinks and snacks available for purchase.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$11–15
Must visit! Very beautifully designed and meticulously maintained. This is a 10- acre site with several themed gardens, centuries old majestic oaks. It has at least 2 restroom sites. Many benches to rest on. Very nice gift shop with stunning mini sculptures, garden tools, candles, wearables. The prices are very reasonable. We purchased beautiful ceramic mushroom desk show piece for just $20 and lavender bag for $10. Entry fee to the garden is $12 per person totally worth it. Activities include a garden kitchen where you cook with herbs and produce from the garden. Themed gardens within the botanical garden include Native plant garden, tropical garden, Japanese garden, southern shade garden, living fossils trees exhibit, lily pond, homage to the wind sculpture has beautiful wind chimes . Each one is beautiful. Tropical garden and living fossils exhibit is located within the 'conservatory of the two sisters'. These two, Japanese garden and 'homage to the wind sculpture' are most beautiful!!! They also have butterfly walk - you indeed see all the butterflies they list. If you visit in the afternoon - you will have less crowd to compete with, giving peaceful experience but in that case be prepared to face afternoon heat.
Very pretty. My advice go in the fall or spring when it's not so hot. There is a lot of shade to keep you out of the sun and seating to relax. Other then the heat, which you have to expect in Louisiana in August, it was beautiful, relaxing and calming walk. Enjoyed it.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$11–15
I visited the Botanical Gardens in City Park today and had a fantastic experience. The park's entrance fee was $12 per person, which felt reasonable for the serene oasis that awaited inside. The observatory was filled with tropical plants and ferns, creating a captivating atmosphere. It was a tranquil and rejuvenating day spent amidst the beauty of nature. Highly recommended!
If you can only go to one place in New Orleans, make it here. This is an astoundingly good botanic garden! See the cactus room, the Japanese garden, the rainforest room, the living fossils room, basically the whole thing! They have an enormous alligator gar in the living fossil room too. They also have a resident cat that gets rid of rodents trying to damage the plants. Almost all the plants are labeled, and at this time of year everything is blooming and healthy! They also have a pretty cool gift shop where you can get bird calls and local crafts if desired. I strongly recommend!
This sweet garden was just beautiful and full of history. My whole family of adults and children even babies walked around and enjoyed the peace and beauty that is this garden. I would highly suggest wearing a hat and bringing plenty of water though. It is hot and mostly exposed to the elements of Louisiana.
We had a very nice time at the botanical gardens. It was a beautiful day and there were numerous flowers in bloom. We enjoyed looking at the many statues and beautiful old oak trees. I'm so glad to see how nicely the trees recovered after Hurricane Katrina. The grounds are extremely well maintained. Some of the paths could use a little help as the stones are raised and uneven in spots. This could present a trip problem for an elderly person. Inside the hot houses there were numerous orchids in bloom. We spent about three hours walking around and sitting on various benches. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
