I am a physician practicing family medicine in Oviedo, FL. Two main issues have lead me to tailoring my practice towards the weight loss spectrum. First, for years I have been trying to control the chronic medical issues (hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol) of patients- many of which were easily preventable had they made different decisions. Second, my own personal journey to overcome the obesity epidemic. At one point I weighed in at almost 260 pounds, and for someone that stands 5'5" this obviously wasn't healthy. Weight loss was a topic that I avoided with patients. How could I tell someone to lose weight when I had to lose 100 pounds myself?! I set out and researched everything I could about weight loss and designed my own plan. As a result, I was able to get to a much healthier state. I have run 5 marathons and am training for a half ironman. The most important change, however, was the food. My passion with my patients has become weight loss. I achieved all this without supplements or meal replacements - only real food, exercise, and determination.
