We scoured all of the local furniture stores looking for fresh, contemporary, quality pieces for our newly downsized life and found ourselves returning to Penny Mustard. I vowed I'd never buy from them because Arvid's commercials annoyed me ha,ha, but no other retailer could hold a candle to PM's selection and superior fabrication. And we lucked out with the most patient and fun sales associate in Nicole Brookfield. We spent 4 hours together selecting furniture, fabrics, hardware & wood finishes, then toasted the completed sale with complimentary alcoholic beverages. It was a great way to end 2019.
Yet another horrible experience at Penny Mustard: After being greeted by a sales rep who never provided their name, we asked a single clarifying question about the specific chair and ottoman we came in to purchase that day. The rep disappeared for roughly 10 minutes to "check on that" and then walked by while actively helping other customers that arrived after us and said in passing that he "didn't think" the option we wanted wasn't available, but was "still checking". 15 minutes later, after two new groups of customers came in and were helped, I stood in front of "our" rep who was now staring at a computer screen. 2 minutes later he asked, "Did you need something?". Rubin's in Madison not only found the correct information in less than 2 minutes, but saved me roughly $2,000 on a $6,500 purchase this time around. Apparently, for two years in a row, spanning over $20k in furniture purchases, my money isn't green at Penny Mustard.
From my purchase experience I would not recommend this company. After purchasing a kitchen table for them, the item arrived with serious flaws. Customer service said it was likely due to humidity and I should wait. I waited a year and the strips of wood that extended past the finished edge of the table did not recede. I called again and they said they would make it right. I figured they would pick the table up and repair it but when the service people came out he just took a magic marker and painted the edges of the wood strips. I commented that this is not how the table looked in the showroom but he did not care and said that was all he could do. Be very careful with this company and examine what they deliver before the delivery people leave as you may need to send it back which is what I should have done.
We are disappointed in the quality and customer service at Penny Mustard.  We bought a swivel glider leather chair here in 2012 for a lot of money.  First the back of the chair started to not come all the way back straight when not reclined.  Then the chair started to lean to the left, and now a metal support bar completely broke off of the frame and it's unusable.  We were unhappy but we thought it would all be handled with their great warranty.  I talked to Dan at the customer service center and he said the mechanism has only a 5 year warranty, and leather only 1 year.  He said it would be expensive to fix but he would contact the maker and get back to me.  Three weeks went by with no answer so I decided to toss the chair, but my parents wanted to maybe fix it.  So my Dad contacted Dan and he LIED and said he got back to me with a price which he DID NOT.  He told my Dad the repair would be $360 for parts, plus $100 for labor plus tax.  So almost $500 to fix a "lifetime warranty chair"?  Dishonest people and sketchy warranty, save your money and go somewhere else!
Sales and Customer Service staff were exceptionally responsive to a problem with our recent purchase. They worked diligently with us to provide an excellent resolution to the problem. The furniture is truly heirloom quality and is built to last. Craftsmanship is what convinced us to purchase from Penny Mustard in the first place. It is more expensive than other retailers, but is definitely worth the added cost. Highly recommend them.
The furniture seemed solid initially, but the support wore as fast as other brands that had cost much less. Upon calling them about it, and their warranty, they sent somebody to check it out. He simply pressed on it with his hands and bounced on it. Nothing to mechanically measure the PSI, simply "opinion". He said it looked fine but clearly there was a big difference from on side of the couch to the other. I commented on how difficult it is to get up from it to which his explanation was that I was older now than when I first purchased it. I showed him the wore side and again, he said this was normal. I then sat in the other side and showed him to which he had no explanation at all, other than to say "well you don't sit on the end much". Which actually was completely false. He said cushions start out more firm and settle out over a year or so. Well, its been well over a year so the cushions should feel similar and it's not even close. My wife provided a response to them and she never heard back. So while spending thousands of dollars sounded good because of the warranty and customer service, it's a complete joke and you're better off going to Colders and getting something decent for half the price that will last just as long. We referred customers there, who in fact also purchased furniture, which I now regret. We planned in buy more furniture there but based in this experience, it would be a complete waste of money knowing the longevity and support "after the sale".
I am so happy with the furniture I purchased from Penny Mustard! Patti was extremely helpful and guided me through the entire process from choosing a sectional to selecting the fabric for the pillows. She even offered to come to my home to help with selecting the best size and colors for my great room! Her recommendations were exactly what I was looking for, and I couldn’t be happier with the quality and look of my sectional. If you are looking for a designer who can guide you in choosing a beautiful fabric for your furniture, you should definitely go see Patti!
Great furniture quality and selections. Bought our couches, mattress and now our desk. Working with Nicole Lundsten has been always a fantastic experience. Super passionate for furniture! We have been searching for my new desk for almost 6 months and finally nailed it down. She will make sure you are buying the right piece of furniture. Her customer accommodations are unparalleled. One night, Nicole stayed past close for almost two hours to answer all our questions. My wife and i did not realize the store was closed! As an Engineer by trade, I am always skeptical on what issues or flaws are in the design, which I could not find any. If you are not sure what you are looking for, go and ask for Nicole.
We received our sofa with scratches; they were nice to offer a replacement! But the the second sectional sofa came like it was built by mixing pieces from different sofas! The sizes of different seats don’t match, and I am not sure if they are even new! Looks like they found pieces from different showrooms!
We purchased a sectional couch a few years back and the seat cushions began to collapse. My wife had been saying for much of the past year, that she believed we had a lifetime warranty on the seat cushions; but I didn’t believe this could be the case. We stopped at the Brookfield store, in early December, and the associate confirmed my wife’s belief and walked us through the replacement process. We then worked with Steve in your customer care group, to coordinate replacement of the seat cushions. Last Friday, your field technician Mark came to our home and replaced the seat cushions; something that sounds easy, but actually requires a lot of know-how and finesse. All of your associates were wonderful, throughout the process and I am now convinced that we made the right decision spending more to purchase an American-made product, from Penny Mustard Furnishings. Why would we go anywhere else in the future?
