The Reedy River Water Quality Group has one mission. We want to protect, preserve, and improve water quality in the Reedy River.
The Reedy River Water Quality Group is a diverse community-based organization with one mission: protect, preserve, and improve water quality in the Boyd Mill Pond Watershed via a 5R Watershed Based Plan for Total Nitrogen and Watershed Based Plan for Total Phosphorous. The Group is comprised of municipal and county agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), homeowner groups, individual citizens, and regulatory agencies. While the 29 participants all have individual interests in the watershed, they have come together and committed to developing and supporting the most efficient, equitable, and effective Watershed-Based Plans.
The commitment to work together was signified by the large turn-out for the kick-off public meeting: 75 participants attended the “Big Tent” meeting in March 2015 to view a presentation of the project, understand the regulatory requirements, ask questions, express hopes and concerns for success, and join one of the committees that had their first meetings that day. The committees will be the working core that develops the plans based on data, sound science, a review of proven water sector practices, and economic analysis. The work products of the committees will integrated into holistic Watershed Based Plans that will be measured for effectiveness against the Triple Bottom Line: how does it benefit the community and the environment and what is the cost?
The number and diversity of the stakeholders working for one Watershed goal is exceptional, and its success will be a model for other environmental initiatives in the region.
