Lovely library. Not super huge in size but huge selection of all sorts of resources beautifully organized. Filled with sea blues and contoured lines. Large collection of Chinese books and Russian, too. Children's area. Teen Area. Program area - separate room with tables and chairs. Outside area where you can see the ocean, read a book outside. Laptops you can use. Large windows so there is plenty of light - important in the foggy Sunset. Next to Giannini Middle School, Sunset Elementary, and very importantly, West Sunset Playground - a large size playground. You can really make a morning or afternoon of library and playground if you are looking for family, kid-friendly activities.
Older Chinese lady is very impatient helping me to print. This incident happened on 7-5-23 around 1:10 PM. She’s in her 50’s and has a short bob haircut. Hey, us seniors are slow and there’s a lot of clicking verification codes and checking where it is and inputting the code and checking your email to see if the code came in the email. We’re not computer whiz’s, she needs to be cognizant of this. The younger heavy set Chinese lady was a lot more patient about 30’s and wears a ponytail hairstyle. The older Chinese lady needs to find another job since she doesn’t have the patience to deal with the public, not with the public library, she needs to get a behind the scenes desk job! What kind of employees does the City hire, people who certainly don’t fit the job description, that’s for sure!
Lovely little library, but just a warning, it gets absolutely FLOODED with middle school kids right when they get out of school around 2:15 or so. I wasn’t expecting this and totally felt driven out of the space by the sudden noise and crowding around at the tables, it was like recess. It’ll be weekends only for me.
Beautiful library with a great layout, huge windows looking out at the Pacific and tons of natural light. Lots of table space and a large book/media collection. Large community room for activities.
It’s basically a public version of the school library, tons of kids, it gets loud, and packed. Wtvr, just expect noise if the Ice cream Van is there. Great view thou while reading.
Closed today, but open for Pokemon Go raid. Parking is not easy
The staff is very helpful & kind. Great kid's section. A lot of kid's books. Fun toys too .They have monthly activities for children. They have a Chinese section as well. It is very clean & has a calming atmosphere . It only has street parking, but I can usually find a spot. Additionally, after 5PM you can probably find a spot in A P Giannini's teacher's lot.
Such a great little library. If they don’t have it, books can be transferred within a couple days. They are well-staffed, clean and situated right next to/within the newly remodeled Sunset Playground, where you can grab a book and read on a nice day!
This library was recently remodeled, and it’s a pretty clean library with the exception of the washrooms, which could be a little bit dirty.
Competent staff, clean, pleasant atmosphere. Two complaints: 1 Parking not so easy, with Saint I students and pub school teaches hogging so many spaces, and City's refusal to establish time restrictions. 2 Too much space and funds are allotted to Chinese-language books and materials. This is also the case in several other Sunset and Richmond branches. I've suggested consolidating Chinese collections in a single branch. That's not PC or politically acceptable but the Chinatown branch is. Any ethnic community should pay for materials and services exclusively for them. It's not fair to the cause of their integration, nor to the general community who are thereby deprived. And I'm certainly not referring to Chinese subject materials presented in English - which are vital to public information and culture.
