One of the best hiking experiences. VERY doable, go at your own pace. Some areas are sunny but there’s some shade in the middle to stop and rest for a minute. Split rock, picnic areas and extremely diverse landscape and flora. We saw older folks and little kids doing the trail. It might be on a longer side about 6 miles for about 3 hours, but totally worth it. The entire path is well maintained and easy to find and track through. Parking advice - if all spots around the parking circle are taken, park and form another line in the middle, the ranger told us it’s acceptable as long as it doesn’t restrict other vehicles from moving so strictly in the middle.
It's a great trail! Challenging in the best of ways. It was July hot and there's no real shade so must wear a hat! Carry plenty of water too & snacks. Early Spring or Fall helps with temps. My son and I had a blast! It's beautiful Recommended activitiesWalking, Hiking, Running
Awesome 5 mile hike! Perfect level of difficulty with ups and downs. Very peaceful and lots of birds and flowers. We were fogged in but still loved the hike.Recommended activitiesHiking
Just took a drive today but hiked this trail many times up to Sandstone Peak restrooms are available. Picnic tables are close by. No hike needed if you just want to have lunch with the family. I highly recommend just driving up here if you're not into hiking. It's so beautiful at this time after all the rains. Enjoy!
Neat trail and easy to follow. Great rewarding view and COOL BREEZE at the top which you’ll appreciate after the climb. Restrooms: Good pit restroom facilities
Great views at the peak! Incline pretty much all the way, recommend bringing a hiking stick or be ready to go on all foursRecommended activitiesHikingParking spacePlenty of parkingParking optionsFree parking lot
Nice place to hike, felt good to get on the peak and look around like you conquered the world. Even on a cloudy day it was still nice and I could see the ocean!
Sandstone Peak is the tallest peak in the Santa Monica Mountain range, sitting at 3,111 ft. in elevation above sea level. It is the best place in my opinion to catch the sunset, with views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding cities. Watching the light of the sun, as it touches the sandstone rock landscape making it appear as if it was on fire. I recommend that you take the Mishe Mokwa to Sandstone Peak Trail route to better admire the area. This is a moderate, 6.2 mile loop with a 1,692 ft. elevation gain.
Difficulty about 6 due to incline. 2 hr hike, beginner to moderate hike. Stable ground, well marked trail. When you get to ridge back sign at end of trail, stay to left to go to peak. Bathrooms, picnic tables, trash cans located at parking area. No water fountains, bring your own water.
