Excellent equestrian facilities. Round pen, good footing, arena, obstacle course, trails, mounting block, covered communal group picnic area, and fire pit there. There are 3 sites with 2 very sturdy 12x16 corrals, and 6 sites where you can high line your horses. Park personnel constantly drive back and forth, and road noise is prevalent. Trailhead next to horse area. Wheelbarrows are available with an area to dump no lifting into dumpsters. Personnel friendly and helpful. Wash rack w mats w secure corral panels on 3 sides.
This review is just for the hiking aspect. There seems to be a ton of activities picnics, Frisbee course, etc.. Parking is $6. Hike: Skyline Trail -> Thatcher Rim Trail -> Manzanita Trail The hike in the first mile is a steady uphill climb, so be prepared for that. It really eases up past this part, all the way until you hit the lake which isn't really a lake.... Now, if you decide to do the Thatcher Rim Trail from here, I would read the following: The climb is steep at parts and requires a good amount of balance. The trails are narrow, and there is minimal shade. When you are finally climbing down, you are hit with about 3 trees that block the trail at various points. Some of these are manageable, but the third one pretty far into the loop is significant. You will have to go off trailing to get back - you can not climb past these trees. This might have been due to the heavy rain that fell last month, so that's the context. All that being said, you are awarded with an. amazing view I imagine, it was foggy when I went. I greatly enjoyed this hike, despite these setbacks. Overall, a great hike. If you want something light, just do the Manzanita trail.
Spent 3 hours hiking the Skyline trail. Beautiful views of Napa with a moderate rated trail with a climb of about 1300+ feet elevation. With all the rain lately, the streams were hopping and the trails were a hit muddy, so be careful and don't slip and slide!
We spent about an hour hiking the skyline trail. We went in the morning to avoid the heat, which I highly recommend. The trail is mostly in the shade early in the day. Great views with some wildlife - saw deer, lizards, squirrels
This was our first sleepover official camp site with toddlers who are 2 and 3 years old. There were a lot of stuff to explore like hidden garden, horse camp, and hiking trails. The best part was probably clean bathroom and accessibility to the city with little kids.
Great staff, place is very clean, and check in process was easy. The location is great and close to some great attractions. I think my only complaint is that dogs are not welcome on hiking/walking trails which to me is…weird. There is a dog run area that we found very useful. I would absolutely return here if given the chance.
We stayed here for just one night on our way south from Washington to LA. Great little spot! Friendly camp host, great trails to explore, quiet and clean. We were only here one night but are planning to stop again on the way back north while we wine taste in Napa.
This place is a hidden gem for camping! No fires allowed, but there are grills for charcoal use. Showers had hot water and the staff was very friendly. We had a late check in time about 8:30pm and they were happy to accommodate since we called ahead of time. Ridesharing was easy from here too. Will definitely be back!
A multiuser park. Expect hiking, runners, groups, folks on horseback, and mountain bikers. $6 per vehicle and hours are 7 am to 7 pm everyday. Bring water, wear comfortable clothes, a hat, hiking shoes, and carry snacks. Map out your path and stay on the trail. If you visit often, it’s worth to invest in the annual pass.
The Sugarloaf Mountain trail in Skyline Wilderness Park is definitely one of those Napa hikes worthy of your attention. The trail leads you through grasslands and chaparral, winding uphill through oak forest and ultimately providing great views from the top of Sugarloaf Mountain. Reaching the summit involves a challenging, but short, section of steep trail which takes careful negotiation, but that just makes reaching the summit more rewarding. We'd recommend avoiding hiking this park on the hottest days, because the weather can be brutal and shade along the is limited.
