A Quality Decorative Arts Studio
To ensure that you receive focused one-on-one instruction, Surfaces invests in our student’s education and comfort. Classes are limited to 10 students and our large classroom provides individual workstations equipped with tools and dryers. A separate area allows you room to take notes and clearly view sample demonstrations.
Our studio meets the needs specific to cabinetry and furniture training. We provide a professional spray booth, drying racks, heat lamps, and two sprayers. A majority of samples are done on actual raised-panel wood doors with molding to guarantee professional portfolio samples.
We stock an extensive collection of sample boards and cabinetry pieces for our students to source. Surfaces also maintains one of the largest warehouse inventories of Faux Effects Silver and Gold Label products to meet your needs.
A Dynamic Faux Finishing School
Styles and tastes change just like the economy. At Surfaces, we are sensitive to students’ needs to sell finishes in a dynamic market. We are constantly testing products and finishes (often in our own homes) to offer you the best results in the fewest steps. Our written curriculum of finishes and recipes is updated before each class, based on professional feedback.
Surfaces Faux Finishing School is a great way to creatively explore new techniques in wall, cabinet, floor and countertop finishes. Most of our classes are two-to-three days in length, optimizing your time and getting you back on the job. Whatever your experience, you’ll learn something new from our faux finishing classes.
A Supportive Staff
Rebecca Slaton started decorative painting full time in 1995 and has completed many large scale private and commercial jobs. In late 2003, she and husband Bruce opened Surfaces Decorative Arts Studio. Surfaces is an authorized training and retail outlet for Faux Effects International. During its growth, the Slatons have supervised a crew of six full-time finishers and have extensively used Faux Effects products in the field.
By 2007, Surfaces became self-sustaining. It is the only studio in the area that refers its students for jobs rather than competing against them. With the addition of Ashley Reuter, Surfaces offers on-site, full-time technical support when you need it most. During business hours, customers can either just walk in or call Rebecca, Ashley or Bruce with product or finish design questions.
