The Big Event is a nationwide service movement that was brought to UF for the first time in 2017. We are hoping to make The Big Event even bigger and better on April 7th, 2018!
The Big Event is a nationwide service movement that was brought to UF for the first time in April of 2017. The Big Event is essentially a new, citywide service day planned and run by University of Florida students. The day is kicked off with an opening ceremony and followed by UF students performing three to four hour service projects across Gainesville - all “For The Gator Good!"
There are four main goals of The Big Event:
1. Build a better Gainesville through creating stronger bonds between University of Florida students and faculty with all parts of Gainesville.
2. Revolutionize the term “community service” to represent giving back to not just one aspect of the community, but the entire community.
3. Physically build a safer, more beautiful and ultimately better community through various projects around Gainesville.
4. Give students the opportunity to show their appreciation for the City of Gainesville and all the support it shows the University of Florida.
Our mission is to Build a Better Gainesville, both by building a stronger connection between the University of Florida and the City of Gainesville as well as by physically building up Gainesville through various service projects.
