The La Grange Area Historical Society

About

Established in 1972 to bring together people interested in the history and study of the area, by operating an archive and museum.

Description

Since its founding in 1972, the society has been documenting the rich history of two villages, La Grange and La Grange Park, Illinois, by collecting significant photos, artifacts and memorabilia from publications and sources dating back to the early 1900's. The La Grange Area Historical Society archives and records information on the people, homes, schools, churches and businesses in the area.

Our primary goal is to make the collection relevant and accessible to present and future generations by digitizing our holdings and partnering with other organizations throughout the village to disseminate information about the community.

Mission

To bring together people interested in the history of the La Grange area, to provide a means and facility for study, to disseminate information, to operate an archive and museum.

Love this place, always come here every year for our annual Christmas tradition to take pictures with Santa. I always make them into our Christmas card.
Pretty neat, quaint house that has been restored back to it's original makeup. Very awesome to be able to go in there to find out about your address, the town, and so forth Our family has donated so much.
The display's and events that host here are amazing. Currently they have beautifully displayed artifacts of technology. The displays are interactive as well as well researched. Don't miss it.
Gorgeous hidden gem. Well worth the trip.
Honestly, I was only dropping off a cool wooden shovel I found under my porch but you'd be amazed at the unique pieces in there. It's worth a pop in on a random Wednesday morning
The La Grange Area Historical Society is a highly valuable asset to our community. We were able to find a wealth of information about our house, built in the 1920s, as well as information about the area schools. They are somewhat understaffed with mostly volunteers, but the people that work there are very nice and helpful. It would be amazing if more people could support the Historical Society with donations or with volunteer time. There's so much that could be digitized; paperwork, photos, etc.
This organization is the keeper of local history and holds popular public events and exhibits. If you own a home in La Grange or La Grange Park you need to check their house files - probably a file for every address in both towns, including commercial.
Had a wonderful day celebrating Derby Day. Fabulous entertainment and Drinks during the festivities. The LaGrange Historical Society is near and dear to me as I live in the Historical district if LaGrange. Come visit and learn more about this great community.
We went to check out the Historical Society Building, once there - found out they have paperwork and new clippings from houses in La Grange & La Grange Park. We pulled the paperwork for our family home and found all kinds of interesting paperwork. Very pleased !!
Went on their ghost walk. Very different and enjoyable experience. The people who work there are beyond nice! Loved it.
