An absolute delight to visit this place with it's caretakers graciously explaining how all the miniature models came together, who was involved, and what the plans are for the future. It's an astounding amount of detail in every once. One of the best parts is that they have a classic film playing on the drive-in theatre - Back to the Future! It is a perfect setting to set the mood of the 50s and 60s. There's a few scavenger hunts you can download to your phone that will keep kids and adults entertained, for hours possibly, and there's many easter eggs sprinkled throughout. The models are beautiful to look at. Also the mood lighting in the whole museum changes from day to night every 8 minutes which changes the scenery of the miniature models drastically. There's an outdoor portion which we were unable to see this time. It's 14 acres of actual old trains that you could explore inside and out. They provide guided tours only on specific days, so call or check ahead of time for more details. The indoor model is also expanding so it will only get better in time. I highly recommend visiting with or without kids because this type of stuff is getting more rare so let's appreciate this art form which is not only awesome to see but a lesson in American history which is something we all could use a little more of.
Very Inexpensive but fun place. A model train inside with great love to detail. Get one of the scavenger hunt sheets, it will significantly improve your visit. Outside you can see full sized locomotives including the "Big Boy"
This is a great travel back in time experience. The volunteers were patient and encouraging to the kids while they did their scavenger hunts! Sweet family fun! Thank you!
This place is so cute it's a whole mini city and they have different scavenger hunts that really make you pay attention to detail. There are different sections like an old timey rail depot, a city full of adobe homes and a 70s town with a drive in theater. The lights also change to signify different times of day.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Took family trip to Frisco and Train Topia. We had no idea what we were going to see but we had been at that museum before for the video game section. As you enter, you'll get a clipboard with a checklist to find clues on the layout. These railroads and landscapes were donated to the museum owners. The scenery represents the original owners journey throughout the Southwest. Our family spent a good time finding some of the marks and it was good family bonding. The adults cost $10 and kids $5 so its a good time for the cost.
What a great display of G Scale trains. It’s particularly cool to watch the scenery change from day to night. Be sure to play the scavenger hunt game to find all kinds of hidden gems.
Lovely experience! The gentleman guiding you are very kind and very knowledgeable on the models. Our kids had a wonderful time.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$6–10
It was super fun. If you have kids that like trains you should try it out. It has a scavenger hunt while you look at model trains and a tour to see the real preserved trains that used to work for the railroad.THEY EVEN HAVE THE UNION PACIFIC BIG BOY 4018.Visited onWeekdayWait time1 hr+Reservation recommendedNot sure
This local train spot was perfect for my son. Inside was full of detail and different routes. The setup inside all came from one individual’s family who donated it to the city of Frisco. It documented his experiences with trains from a little boy going to Colorado during summers, also to his experience in west Texas working in the oil fields. Ask about the scavenger hunt inside, and do the outside tour. Extremely affordable and repeatable for the big and little locomotive enthusiasts.
Traintopia is built from someone's personal collection and was donated to the train museum. The scale of the exhibit is rather amazing and attention to detail is impressive. For instance there is a drive-in that shows a movie when it is night time. The most impressive part is there is numerous other trains and cars that are still boxed waiting to get their turn on the tracks. Definitely recommend for model train enthusiasts and kids off all ages.
