Willamette Mission State Park

Description

Willamette Mission State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Oregon, located about four miles (6 km) north of Keizer adjacent to the Wheatland Ferry and east of the Willamette River. It includes Willamette Station Site, Methodist Mission in Oregon, which is listed by the National Register of Historic Places.HistoryThe park is the site of the Willamette Mission, established in 1834 by Jason Lee, who traveled to the area to convert Native Americans in the Oregon Country to Christianity. The missionaries built a one-room house that served as a school, chapel, hospital, and living quarters. They later added onto the house and built a barn. In September 1837, more missionaries arrived and built a blacksmith shop, granary, and a hospital, and a building that doubled as a school and a dining hall; the ensuing settlement became known as Mission Bottom. The mission later moved in 1840 to Salem (known then as Chemeketa). In a flood in 1861, the mission site was extensively damaged, and the Willamette River changed its course. The mission site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the "Willamette Station Site, Methodist Mission in Oregon". A "ghost structure" marks the location of the mission.

Great place to hike, ride horses, bicycling or just to walk your pooch! Some trails were flooded out so we rerouted a few times. We still got in a few good miles 3+.
One of my favourite places to go look for agates. It's a large park with a disc golf course and horse riding trails. It's a bit of a walk from parking lot to the River but it is a paved trail in that section. There's more I haven't explored there still yet. Like a lake. It's 5 dollars for parking fee. It's a day use only state park. Restrooms: There are some next to all the parking lots. Dog-friendliness: Lots of room for the dogs to to explore but on a leash. Picnic area: They have a few picnic tables but not allot that I noticed.
Natural and cultivated, a great place to walk and take in the view
Great clean place for the whole family. Lots of trails, picnic areas, clean bathrooms and many areas to swim.
Beautiful place. Hiked a bit and also enjoyed a few holes if the disc golf course.
Lovely level green areas with huge trees. Saw Chipmunks and squirrels in the wooded areas. Snacked on the blackberries by the paved trails for walking, biking. People were playing disc golf on the well marked course. I don't know how but some friendly people did offer to show me. It was a perfectly beautiful Sunday with people at the picnic tables. Not too crowded. Saw several horse trailers. Restrooms were clean with flushing toilets. I look forward to going there again. Really the only unpleasantness was the extreme noise coming from speed boats on the river.
Very secluded, cute little rocky river spot that you can dip your toes in without swimming if you don’t want to! Tons of awesome hazelnut trees on the walk there! loved having a free snack!
Camping filled with hornets and port-o-potty was full the entire stay.
This is a great place for a walk, bike ride, house ride or disk golf.
