Asara Wine Estate & Hotel

Description

Far from the city and its bustling pace is where Asara, the meeting point of African gods, is found. Named to represent the harmony between the spirits Astar, Asis and Asase – the Earth, the Sun and the Sky - Asara provides both the weary traveller and the curious pleasure-seeker an extraordinary place of peace.

True to its name and setting, the glorious Asara estate, first founded in 1691, uses nature as its partner not only when producing world-class wines but also in its carefully prepared food and meticulously crafted service. It is this ethos, this quietly luxurious and authentic culture that sets Asara apart.

A beautiful wine estate and hotel in the wine lands. Glass of house wine upon arrival. Serene and by a little lake. The rooms were spacious, clean and top notch. We had a welcome bottle of wine from the winery. There are two restaurants on the estate: one relaxed and a high end fancy one with dress code. Since it is in the wine lands, it’s best to drive yourself or organize for cab as it is very difficult to book an Uber from the estate.
Don't bother. Got seated for wine tasting. 30 minures later we left. No one to talk to or complain to. Ignored all the way out as well. Deli is closed too. A waste of timeService: 1/5
our stay in Asara was so disappointing. 1- It start with the e-mail confirmation - At the email they wrote all of our credit card info, we asked them to delete it because it's not safe that all of our details are online. And when we arrive we were surprised to see that they printed the email with our credit card number although we ask to delete it. 2- We asked for laundry service. We had maybe 3kg of laundry. When we got our laundry back we where shocked to find out that they charged us - 2,690 rand !!!!!, 150 us dollars !!!!! We thought that it must be a mistake, it's not reasonable to pay for few t-shirts and socks almost the same amount as night in the hotel. 3. The pool..... We went to use the pool and the water was so dirty and murky, needless to say that we didn't enter - We didn't want to take a health risk. Very disappointing that we paid for facilities that couldn't Be used. So for conclusion, We couldn't celebrate our honeymoon in Asara in a proper way. When we tried to talk to managers we got no solution for our issues. Not recommend.
Our stay at Asara for 5 days/4 nights ended pleasantly! After an absolutely necessary room change be advised: not all of the “Feature” rooms have functional features; be sure to inquire before you arrive to ensure your room has what you need, in which the manager Nelson and front desk staff person Michelle were professionally courteous and generous to accommodate in agreement with our assessment of the situation, mainly due to a uncharacteristic but serious lapse of service by the cleaning staff, we ended up having a heavenly stay in the Carillon suite! The room had EVERYTHING you would expect of a luxury suite, including an exquisite bathroom with dual showers and tub. The Asara estate/hotel grounds are immaculate and the views are as shown in the website photos—panoramic vistas of the Cape Winelands. The restaurant and wine tasting were pleasant experiences as well. But by far, the greatest accolades go to Bradford, the gentleman who greeted us warmly from the minute we arrived at Asara. He answered all of our questions, even showed us the hiking trail, and supported us throughout our stay. He was genuinely kind to us, which as black professionals and travelers, is a type of treatment we do not always receive unlike “others”. He made our stay truly hospitable. Thank you, Asara, for a wonderful experience.
Right on the start of our reservation the staff send all of our credit card details and passwords on the mail...no cyber security. Then the pool was so dirty- we couldn't get inside. And the most ridiculous thing - they charged us 150 US dollars for less then 3KG of laundry without telling us the price until the laundry was made... Also no buffet breakfast when there is less then 10 people at the hotel - so bad breakfast as well. Outrageous place... We deeply disappointed, for the price and for the service and special from the hotel manager Mr.Nelson Noteworthy details: Disappointing!!!! I went for lunch at Asara today with my kids the youngest being 6 We were served by a nice young lady but I must say the quality of the food versus the price was disappointing, definitely not value for money we had 2 pizzas that were mediocre and medium size for 185, the burger also around the same price and like a handful of fries not even a full serving as seen in the pictureand the beef patty tasted off . The chilli chicken pizza my daughter could not even stomach it Yet I asked the waitress if the chilli was too much and if it could be removed? When we tried to talk to her she just shrugged it off It was a pain finishing the pizza and burger because you want value for your money I will not be going there again and would definitely not recommend it to anyone. For the prices they charge the potions and quality should match up. Now my little one has a running tummy I don’t know if it’s the chilli or the off burger or both. The second salami and bacon pizza wasn’t bad though Absolutely daylight robbery I tell you And I had booked only to be told there is not booking but they can squeeze us in in a bar with kids ‍‍
I booked the restaurant for 50th birthday and was told no photography allowed, no cake allowed no balloons allowed. I had already paid for deposit , I decided to cancel after I found out that they don't serve nice food and all the above things that were not allowed I decided to cancel the booking. I have been waiting now for a week for the refund of my deposit. I wrote an email and no answer. I called the restaurant was told they are busy they will call me but no one got back me. I'm disappointed with their service, they are so quick to enforce their policy on paying deposit but very reluctant to pay you back after cancelation. It all about them , the policy says if you cancel within 48hrs they will pay your deposit back but on their discretion which is totally unfair. I'm waiting now for this long time. Very disappointing service for highly spoken about hotel. Resturant service sucks!!!! Nonhlanhla
Meh. This was a pretty pathetic wine tasting. The only redeeming quality was the view of the mountains and the pond. The service was as lukewarm as the white wine. Our wine person apologized for unchilled white whine because of load shedding — yep, I understand load shedding sucks but whatever happened to a regular ice bucket? You couldn’t figure that out? She also hurried through all the wine descriptions and completely missed the last round - just poured and left. It was like she wanted us out of there. Which may explain why we didn’t get new wine glasses.. we recycled 2 glasses across 6 different tastings. For all the money you took from us, you’d think we could get a few more glasses. There was only one other table — what else is keeping you so busy? Certainly not filling the bathroom soap up because there was none. No thanks. I’ll give someone else my money.
Went to Rafaels for our Anniversary, R1000 per head. Worth it? No atmosphere, food was OK , views were awesome. So the question is , are the Views worth R1000 per person, NO. There are many more good places in the Stellies areaService: 3/5
I was dissapointed in the fact that we wanted to try the restaurant but was told it was booked for a conference..... We were out scouting for new venues...... we have a events business and DMC welcoming groups from all over the world..... We asked at the gate if we could eat at the restaurant...... we were told yes..... only to be shown away at the restaurant. Also the whole area looks unwelcoming..... let me explain..... the deli was closed....the place looks like it should stick to being a conference venue rather than a wine estate...... it just felt bland. Not recommended..... stick to Babylonstoren..... or Spier..... you will never be dissapointed. In a sector with massive competition....... this just does not cut it....
