The staff’s service, friendliness and attention to detail was such a hit! This was an amazing fine dining experience with fresh, tasty dishes and amazingly paired wines. My partner and I were celebrating our anniversary and the restaurant was an excellent choice, very intimate and fitting for a special occasion or as a great experience for a wine-loving foodie. We also especially enjoyed the sommelier, his knowledge and personality made each course a unique experience and it worked well the intimate ambiance of the restaurant
Excellent! We went for lunch and it was relaxed and welcoming atmosphere! - The sommelier was really friendly, knowledgeable and helpful - the wine that he recommended was delicious and went really well with the food - we had the lunch small place menu, which was tasty, interesting and perfectly presented - cherry empanadas were unique and very moorish - we will definitely go back!
Great food and wine, brilliant service, fantastic location, couldn't recommend highly enough. At lunch they were very accommodating to our 11 month old baby. The sommelier was amazing, pointed us in the right direction for wine and was a fountain of knowledge for our travels through South Africa.
Warm atmosphere and extra politeness: this is the first impression you’ll get from Aubergine. The attention to details in the menu is very high. The portions are small so I strongly recommend the tasting menu that will be good value for money.
Wonderful food, well balanced with delicate flavours not overpowered, seasoning was on point for us. The stand out was the wine pairing with the food. Both complemented each other and enhanced the whole experience. The "Happy Birthday" plate just made it extra special
Enjoyed dinner here 2x during our stay! We had excellent service with good humor from assistant sommelier; beautifully and tastefully arranged pairing and courses. All the staff created a welcoming personalized atmosphere … we had to return on our last eve in Cape Town! And again our experience didn’t disappoint even exchanged a few goodbye hugs! Would highly recommend if you are looking for unpretentious fine dining experience :
The wine selection and wine service and explaining was good. However, the food and overall service is way below expectation for the way the restaurant markets itself. I did not like the ostrich and I mentioned it when asked and got an “ok, good” in exchange. Would not repeat this experience.
Just back from a truly exceptional meal. The sheer attention to detail is sublime. Every dish is packed with flavour be it subtle or intense. Jacob was a superb maitre’d and Ralph the Sommelier was invaluable with his knowledge and expertise- he made the meal come alive. To call it all we even met the Chef on our way out. Thank you everyone at the Aubergine.
Extremely disappointing experience. A number of friends who a regular diners recommended Aubergine so I was excited to go but the experience was very disappointing from the minute we walked through the front door. We we met with no warmth and shown to a truly horrible side room behind the bar with ugly table cloths and mud matched furniture - I asked if we could sit in the main dining room which looked nice - and was told “no”. We should have left at that point. We were then left for a good 10 minutes in this horrible environment until a waiter arrived and gave us the wine list. I asked for the menu and he looked at us as if we were insane. Another grumpy waiter arrived and plonked two different menus in plastic frames on the table - I asked if we could have one of each menu and he said no. We asked 3 times to order wine and was told that only the sommelier could take that order. He eventually appeared and was knowledgeable and helpful. We ordered the food which was presented with no finesse or grace and consisted of tiny portions of very mediocre food. We left hungry and disappointed and then had to face a number of aggressive beggars hanging around our car all demanding money. Not an experience I will repeat.
Service was amazing and the sommelier was super attentive and helpful and made an excellent wine suggestion . Food was not fine dining standards and the sides were very overpriced for the amount given. The chocolates at the end of the meal were delicious tho they were very accommodating for the gluten free restrictions.
