Had a super nice birthday dinner here. I have been looking for a teppanyaki place that was hopefully authentic and this place gave exactly that. Genuine ambiance and food, no pretentious decor. It was lovely. The service was great, slower pace but attentive. Makes you enjoy the process.
A great, authentic Japanese teppanyaki experience, done by Japanese. The food is great and service is as expected from a Japanese-run restaurant. The only thing missing is the - as is common in Japan - complimentary water with the food. The food may not taste exactly as you're used to in Japan, but this is simply because of the difference in ingredients Benkei has to work with. The ingredients here are great in their own right, they just have a slightly different flavour than you'd experience at a teppanyaki restaurant in Japan. Regardless, I couldn't recommend this restaurant enough. There are few places in the Netherlands or Northern-Europe that offer as authentic a Japanese experience as Benkei does. The price about 42-48 euros for a set course is a fair to great value for what you get. In Japan you're likely to pay the same if not more for this kind of food...at least in my 5 year experience of living in central and western Japan.
Outstanding! Real Japanese people cooking real Japanese food in a place that looks like a real Japanese restaurant. Amazing, and it's so relaxing to look at the cook cooking in front of you. Will come back! The yuzu alcoholic drink is the best ever.
First time in this authentic Japanese restaurant, cozy environment. Great food, very recommend. As the owner I think forgot to add the 2nd glass of wine on the bill we went back the other day to pay our debt. As he smiled and said this is from the house, I paid it anyhow. A deep bow of appreciation.
Delicious food, prepared right in front of your eyes. However, I didn't like that much the lobster to pay 70 euro for the most expensive menu, but maybe it's just my taste. Lamb was the best in my life though.
The rice wasn’t cooked on the grill and it tasted like it was cooked in the microwave with no seasoning at all and mushy. The ribeye was the only decent part of the meal. The chicken tasted like it was barely cooked so I didn’t eat it. The chef didn’t say hello or talk to us at all and couldn’t have less hospitality if he wanted to. Half the plate was bean sprouts and we each only got a slice of carrot, a slice of zucchini and a mushroom. It just wasn’t much. For the reviews of this restaurant, I expected more. The man at the front desk was friendly but I don’t think I will be returning.
A wonderful dining experience. The restaurant is traditionally decorated and had tables set teppanyaki style. We selected one of the set menus but with a choice of meat. We were then presented a series of well presented courses. The cooking was good quality. I enjoyed a Japanese craft beer. The service was attentive and polite.
A lovely restaurant. The staff were very attentive and gave us recommendations on what to order. It is very authentic. It reminded me of when I lived in Japan. Was very enjoyable.
Very authentic Japanese cuisine, the dishes are very delicious. Japanese green tea is very mellow. But because the staff is not much, the serving is a bit slow.
We had an exceptionally lovely evening at the Benkei restaurant, with delicious and authentic Teppan Yaki, masterfully prepared right in front of us, and an outstanding service with genuine warmth and charm. A truly unforgettable experience! Also congratulations to the restaurant on its 25th anniversary in Den Haag!
