Have been receiving care from a team of excellent care givers. They combine a homely feeling with excellent care and rehabilitation in all facets of recovery. You are in good hands at Care@Midstream. Many thanks Michele Potgieter
Remarkable rehab for ortho patients. I cannot put into words how amazing the service and care has been. Doctors, Physio, OT's, Nurses and carers are all friendly and caring. They go out their way to make sure you're comfortable and have all you need and will run around to get you what you need. They also motivate you daily to heal and are kind and gentle in their treatment. They have many systems in place to ensure that all carers are well informed of patients needs and ability and the overall experience feels tailored to your needs. Lots of checks and balances in place to ensure excellent service This all definately aided and sped up my recovery process. Highly recommended this facility to all.
Mixed feelings about care at midstream. My dad was there for 10 days before he passed away suddenly. The therapy team were great. The lady at reception was rather unfriendly and considering the nature of the Centre, you would think a smile and some manners would be essential as the first person you meet when people walk in the door. Next issue was the rule about not having children visit. I asked and was told no children under 12. Then the following weekend there were little children visiting their mom in the reception and a second set of kids on their way in. When I confronted the staff about this their response was pathetic - basically they hadn’t noticed. What rubbish! Last issue was how long they took to sort out the paper work for the death certificate. It took them 4 days to get it done and I had to hound them for it. I was given lots of excuses. I was told Dr Zahnel Schulenbrug was very busy and when I got hold of her, she told me she was on leave. So not sure what to believe. For the amount of money the medical aid spend on sending patients there, I think they need to sort a few things out.
Truly mixed feelings...my dad was welcomed so well, being a Spirit filled person and family I appreciated the daily praise and worshipwe start and end everything we do with God and the Holy spirit, so that was encouraging. The care workers were okay, and the following nurses : Sr Thandi & Sr Sandra were so amazing and very efficient and we as a family really appreciated their hard work and dedication, from the bottom of our hearts we are truly grateful. My mother being a Former SGM at the department of Health, on the board of a hospital in Limpopo and professional nurse and my husband currently managing at Mediclinc were able to identify some gaps in terms of the care and the quick responses from some of the RNs. We understand the dynamics of working in the private sector/ private medical centre getting demanding patients, demanding relative and others can be unreasonable and difficult, however our encounter / my mothers encounter with a particular nurse was not forth coming, we encountered defensive mechanisms, and never a straight answer and with all that it will always seem as if theres something to hide or unsurety about what was happening. On the day my father crashed and was put back on a ventilator my mom noted a respiratory rate of +/- 38 , pulse rate of 116 and an increased work of breathing she questioned the above and asked if they noted that the condition was already changing and she was told that they will Nebulizer,a proper assessment could have been done ,to determine the urgency in intervening. The above vitals indicated clearly that we were running into trouble. The response from that particular sister didnt not show a sense of urgency - when my mom spoke to my husband ,he then mentioned that later if they dont act immediately my dad would be put back on ventilatorMy husband was not there but just by presenting the mentioned vitals and hearing what my mom was saying he immediately knew he would be put back on a ventilator. It was disappointing that there was no sense of urgency. We knw sometimes you admit people with advanced medical backgrounds or family with medical backgrounds and can also be demanding however all that was needed in this case was a sense of urgency , proper feedback provided to the family and some of sort of reassurance, and guess what my mom was later called and informed that her husband my dad his condition had changed and back on a vent. Even if up until then the experience was 10/10 just THAT. moment ruined it. The night before my dads passing, i was hopsital with my little brother and saw his vital and called my husband, he need to speak to the nurse in charge and requested that she call him, he was told that shes not allowed to call‍ and he must call her, mind you he is has ICU ,Trauma speciality and manages at Mediclinc so this alone was extremely confusing and disappointing. Unfortunately the day after all this my father went to rest in the embrace of our Lord Jesus Christ and saviour. Thank you Dr Coetzee for trying your best we understand he was not an easy case. Our take away from Midstream Sub Acute ,this that the nursed need to be more efficient and they need to let go of the mind set that people who come there are already dead. You are dealing with peoples husbands/wifes/ fathers/mothers/brothers/sisters and friends and unfortunately your role requires you to deal with all patients in a particular way. God bless
Best place I could have gone to. It's almost a year since I left their care and for some reason I felt compelled to say a few words now. Firstly, I'm sad my father never got the chance to experience the care I received as he was due to go there as well. May he RIP. People have different experiences, as with anything in life, but mine will never be forgotten. I truly have no complaints. Everyone was amazing. I had THE best sunny room. In 2 weeks of being there, I learnt to walk again, to dress, to shower, to eat, to do everything I was able to do prior to Covid Pneumonia ravishing my body. For me, the care from everyone was like having family around. I was constantly being uplifted. I'll be forever thankful. Nkosi, Jo-Anne, Portia, Rosina, Lizzie...to name a few. Sister Lilia who is unbeatable when getting a blood gas sample. Will never forget. Thank you.
Had a very bad experience at this rehab regarding the care my husband received. The OT and physio were both excellent but nursing staff really have alot to learn most are rude and not interested in their job, on the weekend it's like a party that goes on there with no supervision, sister in charge Tebogo was always rude and avoided answering any questions. My husband was in hospital for 5 months before coming to the rehab, NOT one pressure sore on him. Within 5 weeks at rehab he had pressure sores on both sides of his bum, showing nappies were not changed and turning 2 hourly not done. Worst part the sister on duty was not even aware of it she only found out once I reported it to her MYSELF no handover done, only then did they get the wound sister to address this once I made a scene as to why this happened to my husband. There were days where I'd find my hubby covered in sweat due to the brain injury he sustained, I'd call them then they would change him and have an attitude ontop of that. High care ward yet they maybe pop in the room every 2 hours if that, I wouldn't recommend the rehab for a patient who is not able to communicate as there is alot of negligence. Food from the kitchen should be served warm for peg feeds instead they are ice cold from the fridge and mixed with water and fed within 2mins when I mentioned this as I saw it with my own eyes nothing was done, nurses still did as they wanted . The ward my husband was in, was understaffed and the care he got for a well known top class facility was very bad, I was counting down the days until he left. Only good thing was Heloise and Michelle the OT and physio. For the money the medical aid pays them and you would have nurses telling you that they need to go slow on nappies. Shortcuts taken at the cost of the patient when the medical aid was paying them more than enough money each day?
I can only but give the highest praises to this rehab centre! Every single person from the cleaners, nursing staff, therapists, doctors and admin are wonderful and professional people! They care and serve with real and honest sincerity! They are so friendly and wonderful! They treat you with such honest and real kindness and you can have such uplifting discussions with them. Most, if not all the staff are children of God and all of them see what they are doing as a calling and ministry and not as a job. It is such a spiritual and emotional journey to be with them and every shift first get together in Praise and Worship which literally brings tears to my eyes! Thank you all and may this centre and staff go from strength to strength and glory to glory!! Thank you, thank you so much! Du Toit Roux
The worst experience ever. Im still waiting on feedback of stolen goods from a family member being a patient there. Even though they claim to have surveillance in the facilty. Nothing was ever retrieved . My dads ring worth almost R9000+ was stolen off his hand and still today has not been returned.. The response we got was "who could steal a mans ring" majority of the staff members are rude seems as though they are forced to work there..still contemplating sueing the facility for the stolen goods.
Friendly, competent staff, lovely facillity, does not feel like you're in hospital. The food is restaurant quality. They took such good care of me, and I would just like to say thank you.
I have been dealing with Social workers, nurses and Dr's since January and no one has been so unprofessional, unkind and reluctand to help than this facility, specially the social workers! Hopefully I will never have to deal with them again!
