Elangeni Hotel

I always love staying at Elangeni, I love how helpful and warm the staff is. I am vegan and always struggle to find something suitable to eat, at Elangeni there was a variety of vegan dishes to try out for both the dinner and breakfast as well as the lunch pack. The rooms are stunning and the view from my room was breath-taking. Rooms: Stunning room, neat and clean with great view Food & drinks: They have a great variety of vegan friendly dishes and there was a lot to eat.

Stayed a week. Overall stay was good but disappointed because Southern Sun does not provide guests with bottles of water anymore. They gave me a tiny bottle on the first day and when I called housekeeping for more water on the next day they told me "the standard has changed and guests only get water on the first day". How does this make sense? I'm behooved because everyday they would replenish the ginger cookies but not the water. How does Southern Sun think ginger cookies are more important than water? I say get rid of the ginger cookies and give your guests water Southern Sun Rooms: Neat and tidy. But no water. You have to buy water Food & drinks: Food was great

The hotel management needs to understand that the ground floor Langeni Restaurant is the main reason we always prefer to sleep at their hotel. I was so disappointed that they wanted us to dine at the restaurant on the second floor. The food of the 2nd floor restaurant was terrible. I cannot begin to share the pathetic service we received from restaurant staff. I recommend the same menu for all restaurants in the building. Food & drinks: Close second floor restaurants. Their food is terrible. Langeni Restaurant us the best

Went to the resturant there on Ground floor for supper. Very good selection of everything. Fresh food and salads variety for every taste. Enjoyed the stay there.about 2 hours. Food & drinks: Very good

We booked for 40 people in the Lingela Restaurant on Sunday 4th June, it was my mum's 90th Birthday. I have been here three times before the covid outbreak, and this time we did lunch. This is my opinion, I still think this is the best buffet served in Durban. Our guests really enjoyed the buffet, this visit was the first for most of them. Although the restaurant was extremely busy, it had a pleasant ambience. Also the chefs did an excellent job, accolades to the management and staff for preparing excellent meals, . Top notch, keep up the excellent service .

Really thought this was going to be a treat, but was left quite disappointed. Definitely was not worth the price. Felt quite unsafe, witnessed an unsettling incident, which took very long to be handled. In the hotel some drunk patrons left children quite traumatised. It went on for quite some time before getting sorted. Management said that they can't be responsible for the way their guests behave. However, these guests behaviour was unruly for hours before the blow up.

Hi dear friends, what an honor and privilege to have stayed at the Southern Sun Elangeni &Maharani. It was absolutely fantastic . We attended a function at the hotel conference center, and with the after party effects, it was great , not to have traveled to our accommodation for the evening but rather checked in the hotel for the evening. I must say, getting up to that beautiful view of the Durban beach front and sea views was even more breath taking. I will definitely visit this hotel when I am in Durban again. Perfect stay.

Sad to see that North beach has deteriorated as much as it has. I stayed at the maharani, hotel still looks good- the rooms however had simple issues that could be improved, some wall paper was peeling, doors on certain cupboards were broken. They should redo wallpaper etc just to revive the rooms abit. Staff were awesome and went the extra mile to make us feel at home. For the price charged I expect better from a big hotel chain.

The receptionist are very slow especially madam THOBILE, we came as a group, so we lined up, unfortunately she chose to serve first the ones she new best. So this was a bit strange. Also she was unfriendly the way she refused to check me in the hotel, pretending to be busy with other matters and favouritism. We came late, tired, but stayed long in a que thus delayed to be checked in the hotel. This is not good at all! Safety: No disappointments, security well organized.

Been to a few southern sun hotels and this was by far the worst experience. You call front desk, room service and house keeping, no one picks up apart from switchboard. Room was extremely cold and there were no extra blankets. After having a shower, water leaked out onto the tiles and messed the floors. No one picks up the phone which just adds to the frustration. I would never stay here again. It's been 30min, and i get told that house keeping is closed, staff are currently looking in rooms for blankets. How can a hotel operate like this??! This hotel is overrated. Highly priced, poor service. Family room is 2 double beds. Bathroom door doesn't open fully. Basin, water shoots out when you open causing the water to spray everywhere. This hotel should be stripped of its stars as I don't think it's worthy of any and it definitely gives southern sun a bad reputation. Room service takes approximately an hour...
