This museum is interesting but it is not about the history of Montagu only about the history of this one church.. The house museum was also good but didn’t say anything about the history of the house.. it would be nice to learn about the history of how the town developed as there are a lot of historical buildingsVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
It's very interesting to read and hear about the past with all its ups and downs, mistakes, travails and the impact that decisions have on communities. One can only hope that we learn from mistakes made in the past so they are not repeated. Friendly staff that answer questions. Well preserved for prosperity.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
An intimate little museum, but packed with some interesting antiques. Lovely acoustics for music concerts, but seats roughly a maximum of 60 people. The herb shop connected to the museum has interesting remedies. There is a bathroom here.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Beautiful building. Some interesting pieces on display. A good deal as you get three museums for the price of one. The local medicine was interesting, with cures or rather treatments for everything from cancer to flatulence.
Lovely visit at the Montagu Museum. Quaint, and a great way to learn a little bit more about Montagu. A R15 cover fee p/p will allow for entry at the museum and the Joubert House. Be sure to check out their herb sales for different issues/ailments/concerns.
A small church with pictures artifacts and a herb garden. Beautiful flowers and friendly service with a variety of herbs for sale. But the Sunday we went the tour guide was not on duty,
For a start the on-duty staff were truly friendly. Wonderful to see sketches of TO Honiball there , father of a former colleague and well known Cradock artist. The mission church museum once again made me realize how interwoven the history of all SA's people are, while Joubert house took me down memory lane to the story of the Great Trek and what all the Afrikaner gave up for freedom.
What a lovely learning experience. Beautiful history.
Very enjoyable visit. It's always good to know the history of the places we visit. Good exhibits and well laid out. Takes you back in time.
Unfortunately the museum lacks clarity. There are banners hanging in the walls. Each banner is written in several languages including English and Afrikaans, unfortunately they are hard to follow with the color blocks and it feels very disjointed. When asking the employees about the significance of the church they seemed stunned to be asked such a question and not really informed. The tour of the Joubert house down the street is also included in the price and was much more informative and gave a lot more understanding and history to Montagu. I would make Joubert House your first stop and then go to move onto Old Mission Church
