Gorgeous outdoor showers and special rooms with a view. This eco lodge is all you need for a basic getaway on the wild Coast. Lots of hikes and canoeing available. A peace of heaven. Please note there is no reception at the lodge there is a 5-10min walk away, not that It bothered me. It is quite far off the beaten track and directions given by managers were a little vague - but it adds to the adventure. Be prepared for some wild Coast roads. Food was good.
If you are fussy about accommodation then don't go to Mtentu, it's for people who won't complain about dirt road driving, don't mind dodging raindrops from leaking roofs and are happy with a wholesome meal. It's tough running a lodge remote, but you can't get closer to such a variety of natural beauty as mtentu.Rooms: 5/5
We spend 2 wonderful days at Mtentu Lodge. It was a fantastic experience. Love the Rustic accommodation. The breathtaking view from our tent. We went to pebble Beach, Skate bay, Sharks point, Red Sands and Sikombe. Some of the most beautiful sites we have ever seen. But best of all was the hosts, Ben and Joe. Joe is an amazing cook and catered for my Vegetarian husband. We laughed so hard at stories Ben had to tell. Most interesting 2 people. Could not have asked for beter hosts and we can not wait to go back.
An unforgettable stay in an amazing location. Both my partner and I are fairly young and we really felt that Ben and Joe took us under their wing to make sure our stay was incredible. Hearty food, a plethora of activities and comfortable lodgings all against a natural backdrop that was absolutely priceless.
This Is a rustic, sprawling lodge on the ocean where a river comes out. The rooms are basic but comfortable. The most amazing things about this place are the food as well as the landscape. Joe cooks amazing food, even accommodating a gluten free diet. Ben is also fantastically nice.Rooms: 4/5
Just recently visited and stayed at Mtentu. It was an absolutely phenomenal time. It is a beautiful part of South Africa, and the lodge has many brilliant hikes and activities to partake. Ben and Joe running the lodge were incredibly friendly and made the stay very enjoyable. The food was also a highlight - delicious! I would highly recommend a visit!
Great setting and very comfortable accommodation. Food can and should however improve drastically without any significant increase to their bottom line - too much of it was deep fried, oily and starchy. The few health offerings were great, so the chef cán obviously do healthy...Rooms: 5/5
When we first looked for a place to escape too for a few days we came across this gem... Such an awesome lodge, Ben and Joe are so welcoming and friendly they made the stay so much more meaningful. The views are fantastic and the food phenomenal nothing less than 5 stars period.Rooms: 5/5
We stayed at Mtentu Lodge in the quieter December period before the festive season in one of the rustic cabins, which was sufficient for a family of four. Cannot comment on what the lodge is like when very busy, from some negative comments I have read, it is preferable to go when we did. The food was plentiful and the views spectacular. The hosts, Ben and Joe, were welcoming and friendly and cared to our needs and they really made our stay. They arranged earlier mealtimes for our young kids, and excursions on kayaks and across the river to the beach as our kids were too small to swim across. The road is quite hectic, recommend a high clearance 4x4 in the rainy season. Potential guests must understand that this is the Wild Coast and adjust their expectations as such, if you want a 5 star en suite bathroom then this is not for you, but you will miss the beautiful, unspoilt scenery, empty beaches and outdoor shower with a view to die for. We will definitely be back!
Mtentu is a magical place to escape to and find your soul again. The hosts Ben and Joe along with their support team made our stay fantastic, from being chatty and always up for a good laugh and banter to making sure everyone was comfortable, they are absolute stars. We even stayed an extra night. The food was delicious as always. Thank you!
