Really enjoyed our stay at Swell Eco lodge ,very beautiful area and the sea views are outstanding. Justin is very very helpful and great communicator. The rooms are spacious and beautiful views to look at from the bed . Well equipped kitchen . There’s working internet for those who want to work remotely. The staff is very helpful, Eddy the chef makes really great meals and a delight to the lodge . The area is peaceful and there’s so many so things to do as well in the area . Definitely recommend
Gorgeous gem of a spot! The rondawels are beautiful, with a lovely deck overlooking the hills and ocean. The surrounding areas are amazing to explore. We particularly loved our paddle up the Mdumbi River. All in all we had an amazing stay, with a bonus of delicious meals cooked by the host!Rooms: 5/5
We had an amazing 4 days at swell eco lodge! Not only were the rondavels lovely to stay in with a beautiful view and only 10 minutes walk from the beach, but the customer service was fantastic! We felt right at home. Eddie was so great, he cooked us delicious food and took such good care of us! He even helped fix our punctured tyre ;Rooms: 5/5
Amazing views. Rondavel room with the sunrise on the ocean vibe. Eddie is a lovely host that will go lungs out to help you. Almost impossible to reach though. 2hours for 40ish kilometres. High clearance car necessary. Do not attempt without 4wd if rainy.Rooms: 5/5
A new very rustic setup. Still being transformed from a family habitat to a visitors setup. A 10 minute walk away from a safe beach - meaning the actual beach shoreline inclines gently into the deeper waters. Also situated close to a river. Lovely unspoilt beach with grassed sand dunes and jjst a few friendly local. If you want a private getaway and are not too concerned with luxury but require a functional habitat then this should suffice. Be warned though that there are 2 off road paths to get there from Mthatha. Make sure you choose the right one! The other one may be difficult especially if it's rainibg or Wed! A truly unique experience with cows relaxing on the beach! Crabs may be purchased from the locals costing R20 each - equivalent of a R350 crab at a restaurant!
This beautiful rustic lodge is just incredible. What a gem in the middle of the mountains far away from everything. Nomsa and her brother who manage the place made sure all our needs were met we didn’t come very well prepared. Our only regret is not having stayed longer BUT we will be back, even the dogs didn’t want to leave. Road is challenging and you definitely need a 4X4 but it’s worth the drive.
Justin and his wife are such genuinely nice people and built this place from the ground up. It's beautifully set in majestic Mdumbi Transkei and strategically set up in a way for lodgers to see the breathtaking view of the ocean first thing in the morning when you open your door. The drive down is a bit rough in places all gravel roads but the view just makes the ride a part of your full experience. The lodge is but a stones throw away to the beach which only counts as a plus in anyone's books. If you don't feel up for a dip in the ocean but still want to cool off, there's a pool above deck close to one of the kitchens that also lights up at night. The kitchens have a rustic feel to them a lot of beautiful woods and wood-paneled ceilings. The actual rondavels where you sleep look small from outside but are beautiful and spacious inside and come with a bathroom and shower along with a bed, chest of drawers and couch. The beds are super comfortable and the blinds on the windows add that modern touch to the overall set up. It is self-catering so it's important to bring all you'll want as the nearest shop is not near at all! If you need small things there is a shop on-site that works on an honour system no-one steals there. There are cleaning staff that make the beds, restore your room to its original state and wash the dishes which is so appreciated when you're on holiday like we were! And if you're concerned about the cleaning staff nipping your stuff, don't. We left our money and belongings in plain sight and found them as we left them hard to fathom for a girl like me who lives in the city! The lodge runs on a generator with gas for the kitchens and showers and there's time periods set for when the electricity is switched on and off. The community folk are all friendly and don't forget to bring some sweets for the kids- they love them! What a beautiful place. If you're looking for a tranquil getaway, book your space here now. You won't regret it
Very nice accomodation with all necessary facilities. Quiet place with stunning views. Staff helped us really well when we had a flat tire. Don't underestimate the 90-120min gravel road to get to the lodge. That's how we got the flat tire :.
Swell Eco Lodge will definitely refresh you, with its natural beauty, helpful staff, adequate accommodation and scenery to explore. Various forms of self catering accommodation are offered to suit your pocket. Staff are excellent. Paddle up the river on a kayak, drive an hour to Hole in the Wall, or just stay put reading, swimming in the pool, walking the beaches, playing pool, or braaiing. You're in for 45km of dirt roads getting there, but they are manageable. Awesome experience in rural Transkei. Go!
Great location and fantastic accommodation. Lovely kitchen/living area attached to the rondawel with a deck in front. Friendly staff . Great views/hikes/beaches. A proper adventure location. Mind the goats, cows, dogs, pigs, donkeys and people in the road on the way there
