Great visit but the tar road is the main problem. So many potholes.Rooms: 4/5
Before staying here, I had some concerns which I could not get enough detail about, so here is a more detailed review of what I experienced and would have liked to know. Place is what you see is what you get. Rustic because it is rustic not because it has been made to be rustic. You feel like you are in a Park home at a caravan park. I had worries about security before but actually felt safe. There was a security guard at gate. Had food at restaurant and no complaints. It is a 100m walk over the dune straight into beach. Beach was quiet and pretty. Lots of stones on beach. Managers / owners friendly. Beds plain, but sleep-able. Not my usual place to stay, is a little simple and dirty / old but it OK. Most places around here are very simple, and this fits the style. I would stay here again but probably not for a long time.
Positives -rooms are spacious and close to the beach. Negatives- noisy, no views ,rooms are dirty and tatty. Mosquitos are a nightmare here. The property is maintain the front but is shocking at the back where the camping is. Full of potholes, scrap cars etc. Will never go back.
Having made a booking and paid a month before arrival at Nenga River Lodge on the 26 December 2018. I was shocked when we arrived. I had booked for 8 people 2 units. When we arrived the bedding for the four beds was used and very filthy. My wife had to remove it from each bed wit the assistance of Khanya who works at the lodge. The bedding is a NO NO. The toilet was not flushing but broken. The sofas were torn, dirty and smelling. There were no curtains on the bathroom window, there were roaches in the cupboards and the rooms were dirty. What I saw was a BROTHEL NOT a lodge. Its not an environment where you can take your family. I felt bad and very dirty. I could not wait for sunrise. The worst thing was that I had taken my mother in law to a filthy brothel. Nenga management must stop lying to us but be honest when marketing their place. We are not fools. Worse still, their managers are very rude and I raised this with them. In the morning, a lady by the name Linda Bird called me at 6:50 am and told me that I must come and see her in the office as to why I am not happy. The funny thing is that she said "Can you come and see me now in my office?". She doesn't say "please". How can you call a Guest early in the morning to come and see you when we drove from Johannesburg to Coffee bay on the same day? The guest is NOT your pat or dog that you can call at anytime. What kind of manners and hospitality is that. That's Nonsense.
am wheel chair bound and Anton went the extra mile to make sure my chalet was wheel chair friendly the day before I arrived. All the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make sure I was well looked after. The accommodation was clean, nice and neat. The food was good and I would again like to thank Anton, Lynda, Cwaita, Greta and all the staff at Nenga for their excellent service, helpfulness and general down to earth pleasentness during my stay. I will definitely recommend this establishment to anyone wanting to visit Coffee Bay.
Management and staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant food very nice.Bar was on the noisy side and situated in the middle of the lodge therefore keeping you out of sleep. Management had to be called asl loud music was played until 1am.The cottages are dissapointing in the sense that the absolute bare minimum utensils are available, not a single glass bowl, no cheese graders and knifes and forkes in bad condition. We experienced water problems every day with supplies cut off. Power was off for two days. The back yard of the lodge has a rubbish corner which is a sore eye. Owner should consider having a play corner for children with jungle gym.
We had a pleasant 8 days stay and we can recommend it. Nice large rooms with cooking facilities, large safe garden and braai spaces with friendly animals and kid friendly and fair prices . And very friendly staff.. Esp Luda, Frwky and Leon We'll coming back
Well situated and pleasant staff. Facilities are well used but comfortable enough to suit most people. Don't expect luxury or the normal 3 stars. Costs are mid range, acceptable for this underserved area.
From when we got here I felt at home, my new home away and I only wish I had arrived earlier or stayed longer. But definitely I'll be making a return trip to paradise... This was truly an unsuspected surprise... Thank Nenga River Lodge
What a Amazing place.. It's right across the beach.. The rooms are clean and nice kitchen.. TV perfect for all your comfort and family and Braai place .. Its a good place if you want your own privacy and the Staff is good people
