Had a great experience at Skukuza rest camp. Our bungalow was clean and neat. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. The camp also has amazing views and small animals to enjoy. Restrooms: Restrooms were clean and well taken care of
We spent our last night in Kruger at Skukuza in an LR2W unit when we visited in mid-May 2022. It's a big rest camp, as you have probably read elsewhere, but it wasn't overly crowded during our stay. A big part of that was likely due to Covid, but it's also a slower time of year for visitors. Check in was fast and easy and the shop and restaurant weren't crowded. We were even the only two at our afternoon bush walk. Pros: Nice gift shop, excellent restaurant. Cons: It's spread out. You'll likely want to drive between your room and restaurant, etc. Wifi was slow and spotty in our room. We had to go to the restaurant if we wanted some sort of stable internet connection. We were waiting on Covid test results to be emailed, so connectivity was important for us. Pro tips: Sign up for a bush walk, bring a flashlight torch, and don't forget a power strip. There aren't many outlets in rooms. Also, the shower had a timer. You can reset it, but it's much easier to be quick and efficient in the rain locker.
Spent a couple of nights here and had some great sightings while on game drives. Cozy atmosphere in the camp, and a couple of good restaurants.
We got booked into the camp via a travel agent, so don't have any opinions on the available options. However, our group thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and found the accommodations perfectly serviceable. The round 'huts' have clean beds and a good sized bathroom. The shower is light on pressure and water flow, but considering water, and power, are a limited resource, it's a minor quibble. There are aircon units and fridges in the rooms, plus a grill/braai in front of each. The camp store is a marvel of concise, but well-stocked essentials and souvenirs. You can buy postcard stamps, too. Wifi is best by the waterside restaurant. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat, especially if we had our excellent guide Rufus. He really made our time there special.
If you fancy a visit to Jurassic Park - Lost world, you’ve come to the right overgrown & under maintained place! Being the biggest rest camp Kruger you’d think they’d provide washing machines for visitors clothes? Unfortunately not, these simply didn’t exist. Signs & maps indicate laundry facilities, but upon visiting said facility we soon realised a sink was all that was left machines broke and were not replaced The swimming pool near the camp grounds appeared to be abandoned, but upon entering the fenced area we were amazed to see pumps still running. All jokes aside, our stay was good at Skukuza.. we were just disappointed with the state of the camp. Restaurants & accommodation was great. Bungalow Rooms were clean and in good condition, great for a family. Also great to have back up power for load shedding.
Skukuza is massive and very commercialized. New railway station restaurant is interesting but no bush feel ,you could be anywhere in the world. Bungalow accommodation is terrible ,it's like going back to the late 70s nothing has changed not even the food stains on kitchen walls lol .No draws for cutlery hardly space to do anything.OVER PRICED !!! I left and stayed at Berg N Dale Much better ! !
The biggest rest camp in Kruger National Park, but rooms and services have a lot of scope to improve. First, the riverfront room didn't have a proper lock mechanism. Second room, they didn't provide towels.
From my own experience, Skukuza is the first Camp we always have, from which we begin our journey through the Kruger. Why? We start the journey to Kruger from Johannesburg by car, which we take at the airport, the journey lasts, depending on the traffic situation, approximately 5-6 hours with stops. If you leave Joburg in the morning, then just around 5-6 p.m. you will be in the Kruger. Usually we arrive at 5:00 am at Kruger Gate and while we are doing the paperwork and we then arrive at 6:00 - 6:30 the nearest camp to the border Skukuza. The fact is that, in the Kruger there are usually some problems with electricity, the Internet, and indeed with logistics for sure. In all other camps it is much worse than here. Therefore, this is the starting point for us, everything is here, you can buy, look at the Internet, and then go where you have planned. We stayed on the perimeter, in bungalow number 92, a couple of steps from the border of the village. I recommend everyone to take a bungalow on the perimeter, a little expensive , but it's worth it and you can see the animals and immediately feel people from all over the world why they coming here.
I would love to visit this area again to make use of the golf course as well as the accommodations on site. Really impressed to see that there is a garage on site as well as stores which make it extremely convenient.
3 star accommodation, as advertised. We were pleasantly surprised on arrival to find the safari tents offer decent bedding not the 1990s prison-style beds and blankets on their website images! And the twin beds had even been turned into a queen. Take an extra blanket or something warm to sleep in during winter; the cold settles at night and it gets chilly in the early hours. The ablutions were very clean, one block had recently been refurbished and looks more modern than the other. We went in a quiet time, and everyone was asleep and lights out throughout the camp when we got back from our night drive. Staff at reception and the shop were friendly and informative. Overall, it was a great stay, and the location is great for game viewing, even in your own vehicle.
