SPCA Heidelberg would like to make a difference and find homes for the unwanted, abused animals that can make a difference in our lives and give love that holds no bounds.

Mission

Helping abandoned, abused and unwanted animals and assisting animals in distress. Every living creature has intrinsic value and is a sentient being and we endeavour to promote animal welfare in specific situations and strive to bring about new respect to all living creatures.

To treat all living creatures with compassion and respect, ensuring their safety and welfare. We strive to educate the community, to create awareness and encourage involvement in animal welfare and above all, to prevent cruelty, suffering and neglect, to rescue and assist animals in distress, to provide safety, comfort and relieve pain.

What a pathetic branch. I've been a big supporter indirectly, but the day you want to help out in a big way they won't even return calls. So you arrive at the time you could speak to whomever is the regional manager that havn't been returning your calls you'll find the gate closed. When they don't even have the decency to say to your face directly no thank you that's when you'll know your help is not welcome. What a shame when people like this have deserted pet's livelihoods in their hands. Good luck on your own
Adopted my beautiful new best friend Lilo, this SPCA is a wonderful place with amazing staff, the inspector has a heart of gold and just having a chat with him will cheer your day up. I will make sure to support them and in future provide them with what they need.

Really friendly and super helpful. They came to rescue a sick and wonded puppy we found outside my neighbour's gate. They were very gentle with the animal

A very clean place. The animals are well looked after. Staff is friendly and helpful. We could hold the dog that we are planning to adopt, and make friends with her first. Then they will come to inspect our home to see if it's safe for a small dog. If we pass the test, they will sterilise her and then we pay and she is ours. We are now waiting in anticipation.
Very clean. I was pleasantly surprised. The yard is very tidy and neat. The staff very friendly. I phoned beforehand to enquire about boarding for my 2 doxies. It was R60 per day Eukanuba food included. They said that I was welcome to bring their own bedding if u wanted to, but that there were also available. Dogs' vaccinations had to be up to Date, which I approve of.
I dread going to the SPCA just like anyone else. The dogs I saw were kept in clean enclosures with food and water and each had a toy. The eyes are still pleading for me to take home and I did take a little rescue dog but the situation is not so hopeless for these dogs as they are given love and attention too.
Is an amazing place had to leave for work and left my dog for boarding and it was just great
Definitely one of the better SPCA's I have visited have visited about 6 in total. Bookshop is quite quaint and has a decent variety of books. Mainly older books but still at very reasonable prices. If you are in Heidelberg and looking for something to read I'd recommend a visit here before buying it first hand. You might just find it here for much cheaper. As for the setup - well managed and seems fairly clean. Dogs and cats seem to be well looked after and treated fairly. Staff eager to help. Dogs definitely yearn for attention which may suggest they don't receive as much attention to needs as would be ideal?. Selection of potential doggos and cattos are however fairly plentiful and they had puppies the last time I visited. Overall a pleasant experience and as always slightly sad to see how much love these animals have to give and only need someone to give that love too. I would very much recommend visiting if you are in the market for a new k9 or feline family member! You are bound to fit a personality here that suits yours :
