The equipment and lighting has been upgraded. I’m very happy with the space and equipment in this gym. It does tend to get full after 17:00, so you need to be a little patient.
This is one of the best kept gyms I've ever been to. There is always someone cleaning machines, floors, bathrooms etc, or reracking/adjusting weights etc. And that makes a big difference in comfort for focusing on training. The revamp that was done recently has made the place look even better. Some machines are down longer that expected, some other gyms have newer, fancier machines, but over all, it's a good machines selection, big weight lifting area, good cooling system and pleasant atmosphere.
Overall nice gym, but you need to improve on your turnaround to fix equipment. Today there is more out of order cardio equipment than working ones and the queues on busy days are too long. Please fix this asap.
One of thw oldest gyms in the country but well maintained....lots of treadmills so youll never have to wait... great location and excellent service by staff... they even have a bike rack.
Good place to go and just work out , decent size and good range of machines . They have a large range of fitness classes , from hit to yoga to cycling. The pool is quite big and it's used regularly, swimming classes are offered there . Theres also a group of runners who meet up and run every morning and they have quite a good thing going on . The staff is friendly and very helpful.
Spacious, well equipped gym, they are currently doing upgrades which is good to see didn't affect my training. Some cardio equipment didn't appear to be working, hence the 4 star rating
For a gym in an affluent area the gym facilities are not upto standard especially when comparing to other VA, which are even cheaper. However staff is amazing

Very friendly staff but unfortunately there is a major lack of weight lifting equipment per member. Gyming after 17:00 is an absolute nightmare. There is definitely sufficient Cardio machines top speck might I say but on the lifting side, a complete opposite. Having to wait for machines and everyone ontop of each other.
I started a fitness group which I called Alpha Fitness, with fellow gym members I'd met at Virgin Active. These fine folks have become life long friends, and it certainly wouldn't have happened without our shared love of a fit and healthy lifestyle. However, the common denominator in all these great relationships50+ ppl was undoubtedly Virgin Active and it's wonderful workout culture. The photos are all the wonderful folks I've met at VA Brightwater, when that branch was still around. Now we gym at various VA's, Bryanston, Randburg, Victory Park etc :
