Very friendly staff, facility is always clean. Variety of machines to choose from, but some of the machines sometimes don't work. They have the best personal trainers to choose from that will assist you based on your needs.
I use this gym daily and I've experienced it at all its times. If you go during the weekdays in the morning, it's busy because of the workforce going before work. In the afternoon it's absolutely packed to the brim and continues till round 18:00-18:30. During this time it's difficult to use equipment and you might even argue that it's difficult to get a good workout in. On the weekends it isn't busy and is nice to use. The pool, sauna and steamroom are together at the top of the gym. It's located above both of the changing rooms which makes it easily accessible. I like the layout of the gym and the equipment is reasonably up to date... It's just a bit busy sometimes.
What is on paper a nice gym in actually unusable. If you want to try get a full session in without waiting for every machine you'll have to go on the weekend. During the week it is busy pretty much all day. I would recommend between 8am and 11am as it is the quietest time to go. What is more frustrating is that management have done nothing to mitigate this. They could add machines or benches in the yoga studio while it is not being used. At the end of the day Stellenbosch needs another Virgin Active and until that is don't this gym will always be overcrowded and overused.
I signed up back in the day shortly after the gym opened. Then for the following years I experienced the lack of maintenance on the equipment until I left in 2018. I now joined again and I guess I am not surprised. A lot of the equipment that needed maintenance back then still haven't been fixed. Considering the amount of people that gym there how on earth can they not spend a thousand bucks a month to replace worn pads, rubbers, handles, clips etc? I'm not talking about replacing equipment with new ones, just do the little bit of maintenance that is needed on existing equipment.
The best gym I've ever joined. Its been 4yrs now. Staff is friendly. It is cleaned all day everyday the equipment is up to date
So disappointed in this gym. Most of the equipment needs a service or replacement parts. The weight section is never organised or tidy. The machine selection is all over the place, one has to spend time walking around looking for the one you need. The class selection is a 3rd of my previous gym. A frustrating experienc even 10 months later.
Big gym, but very busy, average quality of materials and way overpriced. I came for a day, paid 350 ZAR, which is more than day passes in other gyms in and around Cape Town. Even the Virgin Active gym in Sunnydale was cheaper 275 for a day. Still you need ur own lock for the lockers. Recommend to avoid this place if you can.
Smallest and busiest virgin active I have been to. Always way too busy to have a good workout and the equipment is damaged and weirdly placed. Definitely one of the worst Virgin Actives in the country and it is sad considering all the Stellenbosch students have to use that virgin active
It’s a very well equipped gym. It has a variety of machines and weights, all are which in good condition. Like other virgin actives, it has a pool and offers exercise classes.
I am having the worst customer experience with Virgin Active Stellenbosch. After cancelling my contact in November 2022, I am for some reason being charged R600 per month for the last two months now, even after having payed cancellation fees of R570 and paying the amount of months I had left until contract termination. I moved to Dubai and do not have any means of contacting the club, not even the personnel I know by name who I have contacted individually have replied to one of my messages in this period. If someone has some advice on how to claim my money back please do share. I am very disappointed as I have been a member for over 15 years and this is the service I get.
