I purchased a kitchen aid stand up mixer a few years back. It sat on my kitchen counter for three years unused as I had moved to north Dakota for work. I just got back and have begun using my mixer. It is smoking and the mix speed is sporadic. I called to see what they would do about a replacement. All they told me was the factory warranty is 2 years so there was nothing they could do. Now in my managerial experience, if I personally don't want to take the financial fall of faulty equipment, I contact the manufacturer of the product for my customer. If they refuse to take care of it, I take the fall for the customer. That is good customer service. Instead I had to contact kitchen aid. They sent a replacement no charge right away and a free shipping label to send the old one back. So many local businesses push the "shop local" agenda but paying a higher local price and having to do my own warranty work isn't worth it. I will definitely be shopping online or from Costco (excellent warranty team) from now on.
