I own over 30 watches; 20 of them use batteries. Over the years, I have taken the watches to Bowers to have the batteries replaced but also over the years I have noticed that the batteries do not last more than 6 months. Obviously, it is not about wearing the watches and having chronograph and other functions enabled. Also, I do not wear 20 watches at a time to quickly run down the life of the batteries. Without including paying for any band adjustments, I paid approximately $10.00 for each battery; $200.00 for all 20 watches. Incidentally, I have the receipt to prove it. When I politely mentioned to the gentlemen that the batteries do not seem to last as long, he literally told me "I am not going to replace the battery since our quality is inferior". Nice attitude! You get what you pair for.- lower prices but you are not paying for top quality battery replacements. The next time you go to Bowers for a battery replacement, ask them to show you the SEALED, branded package the battery comes it.
Took in two wrist watches. One for a battery replacement and one for a band adjustment. Gentleman who assisted me was kind and helpful. Only issue is the back of the watch that has the battery replaced has a fairly long scratch on it now, as well as on the band where it meets the back of the body. Not the end of the world considering it's not a visible area, but still a little frustrating.
One of our proud possessions is an English tall case clock which dates between 1720 and 1740. Mr. Bowers, Sr. kept the clock in great running order for more than 40 years. We were saddened by his recent passing. When we again needed service, I visited their shop on Cheshire Bridge Road and received very helpful advice from both sons at no cost. Because of some work we were recently having at our home, it was necessary to move the clock and partially disassemble it. Following that, Tom, Jr. made a house call and, like his father, got the clock working perfectly and made a number of helpful suggestions to maintain it and protect the burled wood casing. He was extremely helpful and his pricing was most fair. I would recommend this family for ANY clock or watch related matter.
Beware, one of the brothers jumps to conclusions and has a serious temper issue, which has been mentioned in another review. I've been a customer for 10+ years. I brought in my mother's very old watch for battery replacement and received a text message with receipt, which at the top said "amount $0.00" for battery replacement. This is the first time I received receipt by text message from them. Over the years, on several occasions they charged nothing if a watch didn't work after putting in the new battery. I assumed that the $0 was due to a problem with the watch not working after battery replacement, which wouldn't have been a surprise due to the watch being very old. After seeing the receipt, I already warned my mother to expect that her watch wasn't working and started shopping on-line for a new watch. One of the brothers came out with the watch and asked for $10. I was surprised because the text said "amount $0.00", so I showed it to him as a question, because I wondered if maybe something was wrong with the watch and maybe he didn't know about it because perhaps the other brother worked on it. When I showed him the receipt, instead of politely saying if you click on the receipt, you'll see it in its entirety with $10 due at the bottom, he jumped to conclusion that I didn't want to pay, got very angry, ran to the door and held it open and ordered me out of his store for 'not wanting to pay'. I was stunned. I never said that I didn't want to pay. I just wanted an explanation for why the text receipt said "amount $0.00". I wanted to make sure that the watch was OK. Why would the receipt at the top say "amount $0.00" anyway? I was confused by it. He told me to click on the receipt- I had to click on it 3 times before it opened- I am not very tech saavy and didn't know there was more to the receipt and that the total of $10 was at the bottom, out of view. He continued to accuse me of not wanting to pay--even though I never said that-- and didn't want my money, but I insisted on paying--because I had every intention of paying--put the $10 on the counter and told him he lost a longtime good customer. He made no effort to apologize. Beware. Addendum: turns out my mother's watch is not working after all. Wonder if that is why "$0.00 amount" was listed at the top of the receipt. Maybe they knew it wasn't working but forgot about that and charged $10 for the battery. I guess I'll never know because I'm not going back unless they apologize for flying off the handle at me. But I'm out $10 for a watch that doesn't work.
Got a fancy watch go to Worthmore jewelers in Decatur. This guy said to change a Bulova battery we had to send it to the factory….worthmore did it in five minutes. Maybe they don’t want small battery changes and want more complex vintage repairs as their work? Place is confusing here
Highly recommended. Exceptional customer service and they do great work. The entire staff really cares, answers your questions and values you as a loyal customer. Super grateful and proud to support this business.
I felt like I was treated rudely by the younger of the 2 guys working there today...only there to get the battery changed in watch...very short answering my question about how did he get my email address since it was my 1st time there when I paid with a CC...like I was wasting his time ....won't be coming back and will steer others clear from going there!!...I DEFINITELY should have read the reviews BEFORE going there as I would have seen this pattern of rudeness !!!!
Other shops referred me here when they couldn't do my watch repair - Bowers handled it no problem while I waited
Great service & prices for watch battery replacement. Been coming here for over 10 years.
Fantastic shop -- I stopped by to have a watch battery replaced and the gentleman did it quickly and for a fair price. I picked up a nice watch band as well. Very neat shop to look around while waiting on your timepiece. I will definitely be back.
