Clarkdale Historical Society and Museum

Ambling through town, the dog and I swung in for a tour of the Clarkdale museum. Greeted and led on a tour by the knowledgeable Mr. Paul Peck, 8-yr veteran volunteer, I was definitely lifelong impressed. There's a whole cast of history's characters Paul brings to life, as he tells their stories, connecting the places and events of the sleepy town of Clarkdale to the giants of Vegas and New York. The materials housed in the museum are genuine and exquisite, immaculately cared for and hand-collected from historical figures, as well as the mines themselves. And the view out the back window! Spectacular. Even more so, when you have someone there that can point to what you're seeing, and tell you what it is. Kinda like a living, working, talking treasure map! And while you can see pictures of the mines hanging on the walls, Paul's description of the interiors of the mine buildings are really the color on the canvas. And did you know raw copper looks like a rainbow!? It's a must see museum, in a must-see town, in a must-see landscape. Take the time to treat yourself. Oh, and cruise the book selection. I was a volunteer here and I had so much fun learning about Clarkdale and its history. The staff here is great and very knowledgable. I took several pictures for the museum and acquired some artifacts from the old copper smelter which are on display. Stop in and check out the museum while you're in Clarkdale. Also be sure to visit the Coppet Art Museum in the old Clarkdale High School.
