On-site park hosts circulate, maintain facilities and basic campground, boat ramp and bathrooms. Favorite place to watch birds. 2018 is a high water year. The river widened, reduced bank access. Terrain is rugged, fishing is off.

This is a great place to hike when the weather is gray west of the Cascades. The trail parallels the river and is generally listed as a 22-mile hike. Of course, you can turn around any time. It's a great place for birds and views of the Deschutes River. Backpackers use the trail, and car campers stay in the park. No fee for daytime parking.

What a beautiful day for a hike along the Deschutes River. We followed the old railroad bed for about four miles from the entry of the Park. You don't have to go into the Park as there is a parking area for hikers, cyclists, and equestrians. Cyclists need to bring extra tires and plenty of repair kits. There is a warning about a type of thorn that eats tires. We saw Canadian Geese, Mule Deer, A Coyote, some Magpies, and various tweety birds.

Beautiful! You can walk along the river on a little trail up the Deschutes for about 4 miles or you can take a fireroad much farther. It can get brutally hot and not much shade so choose your time of year carefully!
