Firm is firmly in first place, a New York gem--great workmanship at fair prices. Don't understand the few negative comments, but I have been going to Firm for many years and have received consistently good workmanship, service and fair pricing, including for watch battery and strap replacements. Highly recommended by a very "discerning"/fussy customer.

The guys there are not honest. After I shared my bad experience with my female friends, they suggested that we might be dealing with sexists, because they got this very condescending way to talking to us when being questioned.
I bought a pair of shoes from another country when traveling but didn't noticed part of one shoe wasn't glued properly. I turned in the new shoes to the store and when I picked them up, I saw both shoes covered with black stains, seemingly from shoe polish or something else greasy.
The black stains looked very striking and saddening on the light brown shoes and I questioned the shop owner. He first tried to clean the stains off but failed. Then he argued, "you asked me to glue it and I glued it for you." Next, he claimed they were turned in as old shoes with stains and they were not responsible for the damage. He went on and on with made up stories and I was amazed how people could just do that.
Yes, my shoes will eventually get old and dirty and unusable but simply won't age with their fables and fairy tales.

Brought over 20 pairs of my shoes there, including my favorite Guidi and Balenciaga boots, and they do such a fine job that I simply trust them with whatever they do. Great skills, great service.

This place is excellent. The advice they give is good. The work they do is good, and it is permanent. I've overheard many customers compliment Alex and his workers. Like losing your regular barber, I lost my decades long relationship with my reliable cobbler, Angelo when he left his 10th St shop - Alex has nicely filled that void.
