Fredericksburg

The platforms are covered and the parking lot is well lit, but those are the only real positives to this station. There are no staff onsite and the electronic info board was apparently broken when we were there, so the only way to know which platform your train will be on is to listen closely for a last-minute verbal announcement and, if necessary, sprint to the other platform before the train arrives.

Great company for transportation, if you want to sit on the tracks for 2+ hours waiting for them to move a broken down train. Literally every trip I’ve taken with AMTRAK, there is always a delay due to a train breaking down. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

The station is terribly lacking. No waiting area, no clear announcements, no screen displays, no ticket windows, no Amtrak ticket machine or window, parking is a hike, outdated station.

It's great that Fredericksburg has VRE and Amtrak service via this station. I love rail transport! But there are some pretty serious issues going on here. First of all, there is NO PLACE TO BUY AMTRAK TICKETS. At an Amtrak station. I repeat, there is no place to buy Amtrak tickets. Seriously?!? Amtrak's website and smartphone app are notoriously unreliable. So you have to call them, and wait for 15 minutes or more to get an operator to take your credit card number and issue a ticket by email. God help you if your phone's battery is dead, because there's nowhere to buy a paper ticket, and you can't buy a ticket on the train either! Secondly, VRE only runs on weekdays. But if you walk in and buy a ticket at one of the VRE kiosks on a weekend, it never tells you that your ticket is USELESS. This is Monty Python level absurdity. Thirdly, the ground floor of the station is used as a urinal by the drunks wandering about downtown. You literally have to walk across 50 feet of freshly urine soaked concrete to get to the stairs leading to the platform. They desperately need to take a firehose to this place every morning at daybreak.

This place sucks! Unmanned station, free money to amtrak for untimely arrivals and the train comes whenever.... Absolutely, sickening!
