There is a lot to do in this forest, fishing, hunting, boating, sightseeing, hiking, photography, 4 wheeling and more.
One of the more significant attractions to this National Forest is the Mitchell Monument. This monument is dedicated to the victims of the only location in the contiguous US where Americans were killed during World War II when a Japanese balloon bomb exploded. The explosion killed Mrs. Elsie Mitchell (the wife of Reverend Archie Mitchell, Mrs. Mitchell was also pregnant at the time) and 5 of her Sunday school children. The act and memorial site is quite well known to the Japanese who have since then visited, sent offers of peace and healing, and sent cherry trees to be planted at the memorial site. A very important piece of history at this location near the town of Bly, Oregon.

There is so much of nothing out there but the cows. They broke the fence, guess they got bored. It's in your mind's eye of what you see in the plains of all that land. Real old home's, farm stuff laying about, falling down barns, old wooden fences leaning one way or another. The stories these old buildings could tell. If trees could talk, they would tell you what walked down the trail back in time. If you have an open mind you can feel what once was.

I just love riding my horse through this forest. So quiet and peaceful. So many places to ride and without being bothered by others.

With little or no snow I enjoyed a nice drive into the country side only to find the places that I wanted to fish still frozen over.
I was the navigator and my brother drove me around today.
