Very disappointed with this place. We adopted our GSP, Buddy from a Humane Society. We had him just under 12 years, he had to be put down because of hip/leg problems. During the 12 years we cared and loved Buddy and did so without a fenced yard. We fell in love with a GSP at HUA, filled out application. No where in the profile for this dog did it say a fence was needed. That was there excuse for not letting us adopt. I feel personally insulted by these people, because I don't have fence, I can't supply a safe, loving forever home. Our Buddy had the best of everything. Never an incident without a fence. Who do these people think they are? What makes them experts? Denying a loving forever home to a dog that needs a home. If they adopt the animals out there steady flow of donations (cash) may take a hit. I feel that this non-profit needs to be investagated. I personally plead with whoever reads this not to support HUA with a money donation. Bring them food, blankets, cleaners, or chew toys instead. Stop the "BUDDIES" support. To many loving families have been denied for unreal reason's. Our heart broke when Buddy was put down. Now my heart aches again because HUA denied me over a fence. There "COMMITTEE" doesn't know me to make that choice. SHAME ON HUA FOR NOT LETTING THIS DOG HAVE A HAPPY, LOVING FOREVER HOME. HUA pushes people to buy from mills or breeders. How is this helping. I will be contacting someone to look into this non-profit money making machine. SHAME ON HUA.

To visit HUA is to see first hand the love and care these animals will now get for the rest of their lives or as long as they are at HUA.

Denied because we said dog will be indoor outdoor Colt was listed as a high energy dog and they have a long standing policy all dogs should be indoors i stated he would sleep indoors or outdoors as our other rescue dog loves being outdoors and Colt would be a great addition and when emailed to explain application with pictures of yard and house no response so due to long standing policy that they aren't willing to hear any clarification or misunderstood i wouldn't refer or recommend applying hear especially since they encourage you to keep active dogs indoors
I got a response they would rather have you crate you active dog indoors vs providing a 5' by 50' fully enclosed kennel

I agree that something is going on here, I am in vet school in Iowa and there is nothing wrong with a dog being outside in a large fenced in yard especially with dog doors to come and go, there seem to be policies here that exert inappropriate control. A dog that is never to go outside to sit in the sun, go to the bathroom, exercise if so desired is not healthy care for canines. If a dog is not adoptable that should be stated and I looked in the case of Krispy on 1/25/18 at about 2 pm and it is not. In fact, since there are so many complaints I am surprised that there is no response from the facility. That is telling. It shows this organization isnt about the dogs or the people with whom they would like the dogs to live out their lives with. People are offended dogs are misrepresented potential owners are lied to, policies are not expressed nor are best environment, rather its about the dogs personality to possibly manipulate online viewers for money possible....it seems very odd at best.

Update on Krispy apparently he has been there for almost 10 years and my friend was told it was questionable about him going anywhere else so that begs the question what is going on here? Why would a dog be up for adoption that is not adoptable. Why are there no responses to the reviews where this kind of thing is happening to others? Collecting money feining adoptable but arent. My friend had four choices and got different information today when she called than emails had told her. Something is going on here
My friend has been treated very poorly by this organization. She wanted to adopt a senior dog after loosing her basset a few months ago and was treated as if she wasnt worthy! They never called her only through emails, told her none of the dogs she was interested in would suit her!! One of them was Krispy and apparently she cant be leash walked so no problem there is a fenced in back yard and leash walking would not happen but instead judgments were made about someone they dont even know that is a great pet owner and any dog would be happy with. Very disappointing from everything I had read about this place. We will find a dog who needs her love and care and will find her home comfortable, caring and top notch! It said Krispy wanted a quiet home and this would have been a good match but we still hope Krispy finds a way to get a permanent home
