Illinois American Water

Accidentally left a digit out of the account number when I sent in my payment. That was August 29th. Check was received by American Water on September 7th. Check cleared my bank account September 11th. American water has not been willing to refund my payment stating they are still investigating where the money went. I have sent them 2 emails with copies of the cleared check and have called 6 times now about this issue and keep being told to wait another month. December 4th I called again, 7th call, and was told it was still under investigation. I guess you can treat you customers this way when you are the only water supplier in town. PS - I had to click 1 star so this would post. i didn't even want to give them 1 star.

Seriously so impressed with IAW's customer service, we had the nicest guy named Jaimie come down to fix our water meter. Our landlord has not fixed our basement's leak for about 6 months now and we thought that Jaimie was here to fix the leak. He politely explained that he wasn't there to fix the leak but that he could try to patch it up for us until we got the plumber. Jaimie stayed at the house for extra amount of time patching up our leak with tools from his truck and patiently explained exactly what was going on in the house. It's so nice to see a company with really sincerely concerned and kind employees

Accidentally sent them my rent check instead of my water check. Called twice the next business day to inform them of my mistake and to ask them not to cash it. Decided to void it just in case. They tried to cash it, then sent me a letter that they couldn't. Someone should have intercepted the check before it went to get cashed. Someone else should be reading to whom the check is made out to and why the amount was 20x higher than asked for. Other than that, never had any issues.
