We had a wonderful experience. The house was beautiful. We sat in the parlor listening to the relaxing music and enjoying the atmosphere before we went to bed. Phil is the cutest older lady ever. She made us feel like we were staying with a family member. She let me hang out with her little (well behaved) dog. This was an added bonus for me because I really miss our pets when we travel. My husband and I love history so staying in a house built in 1749 was really cool. Houses were smaller back then so the rooms are smaller (as expected). If you love history, this is the place for you. The neighborhood seemed safe and quiet.

During my duty in fort Dix I had the luck to stay in this wonderful B&B.
It's a house full of history and character. I had a wonderful time there with a great breakfast every morning. After duty it was like coming home.
Thank you so much for this 2 weeks.

While the hosts kept everything clean, and the breakfasts were good, there were a number of factors which made this a less than completely positive experience. Whether it is lack of funds, energy, or interest, the hosts have paid little to no attention to the upkeep that a house of this age demands. The furnishings are less antiques than they are just plain old and won out, numerous cracks in the plaster walls and ceilings were visible, and what repairs were done were alarmingly amateurish. But the greater factor was all the unspoken "surprises." The fact they own a dog isn't so bad, though it'd be nice to know beforehand. The biggest surprise was a $180 "holiday" fee they chose to tell us about only at checkout. The Isaac Hilliard House, under the present ownership, is among the most disappointing B&B's I've been to.
