Island Explorer

A free shuttle service that takes you all over Mount Desert Island. We have been camping on MDI for 10 years and we have used this shuttle every year. During the summer months the more popular spots in the national park are busy and parking in the park is very limited. The bus has always been on time when we have used it.

I can only speak to the Eden Street route (Route 2), but it was always prompt and efficient. Driver was always courteous. The fact that it does all of this while being a free service is insane.

I found this service SO useful! A great way to get around, since parking is at a premium. One of the employees, Nancy, was especially helpful. I love that we could load up the bikes too, to get to the carriage trails. Thank you!

Bus never showed up. We have been waiting infront of the visitors center for 45 min. This is crazy. If there is a parking problem the least you can do is have a working bus system. I only have 1 day here to explore the park and now I have wasted over an hour waiting for a stupid bus.
