Turkey Creek Canyon near Pearce, Arizona John Ringo at Turkey Creek Canyon This dirt road and canyon is near AZ-181 and US-191. The road goes up into the mountains and is known for its one historical marker, the grave site of John Ringo a gunman and outlaw that is said to have sat in the fork of the oak tree and shot himself in the head; the story is controversial as many think he was shot by others and placed there as a warning to those that would do bad. The canyon is one of the few in the area that seems to have year-round water flowing in its creek. This brings on bear, deer, and other wild animals, and if you drive up the canyon toward the waterfall (about 8 miles) you may see Black Tail or Mule deer along you trip. The marker states "John Ringo.. The remains of this noted gunman and outlaw lie here. A Teamster traveling from West Turkey Creek found the body sitting in the fork of a nearby oak tree with a bullet hole in the right temple. A coroner's jury reported the death to be a suicide, and Ringo was buried on the spot. There were others who viewed the body and maintained that the July 13, 1882 death of Ringo was Murder" Pearce, Arizona Make a stop at this Ghost Town, it is still occupied, is near a newly opened Gold Mine, has several buildings from the past, a jail, and a graveyard worth seeing.

the story of Johnny Ringo is another tragic sw tale. I dont think he was murdered by doc or wyatt. I think he chose to take the easy way out while on an extended drunk. beautiful place he is laid to rest to at tho

Grateful the property owners set up a nice party to see this spot. Not much to it but the short story of this villian's life.
