Le Tigre Lounge

Le Tigre is a very unique bar. Its worth checking out if you've never been there. That said, there are more rules at this bar than any I've ever seen. You cant talk loud and you can't swear - I'm not kidding. Some friends and I stopped here last New Years eve. It was 11pm so naturally we all had a little buzz going. We were happy, it was New Years Eve and we were celebrating and having a good time. Well, we must have been having too good of a time because the bartender literally shushed us.....at 11:30pm....on New Year's Eve. Shushed us and then told us to use our "inside voices". I mean, come on dude, I haven't heard "inside voices" since grade school. I've been here several times and usually its fine, but any grown man bartender who shushes me and tells me to use my inside voice is going to lose the majority of my business. Come here to see all of the Tiger stuff because that part is unique, just make sure to use your inside voices and be ready to use an incredibly awkward bathroom.

OMG this place is so kitschy and lost in the 50's. Tigers everywhere, including an actual "Litebright" pic of a tiger mounted on a corner. (Those of you who are younger than 40 can Google that.) Very reasonable drink prices. No cards so bring cash. ATM in the corner for emergencies. Last thing, it's very dark so most of the fun decorations emerge as your eyes adjust.

This place transformed from a deeply unfriendly working-class dive bar smelling of smoke and deep dissatisfaction to a hipster-chic... Dive bar. The drinks are classic, the staff pleasant, and the atmosphere convivial. The full-body taxidermied tiger from the old days is gone, replaced by half of a tiger (front, thankfully,) in a small up-stool ringed shrine. I'm tickled pink by this Madison classics revival bar!

One of the most interesting bars in Madison, Le Tigre has been under the same ownership for over 50 years making it the longest running bar in town. If you go check out the jukebox - 8 plays for a dollar.

One of the best hidden treasures in Madison. Not only are the cocktails top notch but the decor is untouched since 1965 when it opened. I highly recommend dropping by during the high holidays to see this place in all its splendor.
