I wanted southern home cooking and I got it! Fried flounder, black eyed peas seasoned perfectly , cabbage cooked perfectly and pickled beets. Everything was so good! My glass of sweet tea was never empty. They were close to closing when we got there and we were treated as if we were the first customers of the day.
In much the same way that Madonna’s unnamed lover made her feel like a virgin, my first bite of the large serving of mashed potatoes and brown gravy made me question whether or not I had ever tasted real food before. What this place lacks in atmosphere, decor, and food presentation is easily made up for in taste and service. Don’t let the drab late 20th century decor deter you. Walk in, sit down, and just enjoy any combination of meats and sides that are sure to leave a lasting impression on your taste buds.
Heard this was a good place to eat from locals. Went and it was delicious. Everyday food, country cooking, soul food or what ever you want to ca it. All I know it was good. Waitress "Chiquita" was excellent. If you like chicken liver, it was cooked perfectly. Slightly hard on outside but moist and soft not dry. I had pickled beets, pork chops, cabbage and black eyed peas. Cornbread muffin was hot and butter just melted right in. Good hearty meal. Recommend
I like it. Had Catfish, green beans, okra and slaw. Catfish was great, but I'm not from here. Green beans were the best. Okra was so so. The cornbread was great too. No real butter though. Tea tasted like it might have bee instant.
Delicious fun food! A good slice of southern food, great service Kevin.
Just had a quick lunch...and boy, lemme tell you: it was quick ! Got the chopped steak & veggies. It was out hot and fast. Veggies were surprisingly perfect. Couldn't find a fault at all with the food! Only complaint... if i must list any negatives: trying to get someones attention for a drink refill was a chore. Not sure why.. i sat at the b, within 3 feet of the register and there were 4 people gathered... just more interested in their stories... Oh well.. i finally got some drink and i was good!
Everytime I visit home I have to go there. The food is great. I always get grits, eggs, liver pudding and fried flounder. It's making me hungry just thinking about it. The food is always wonderful...check it out for yourself. You won't be disappointed...Food: 5/5
We stopped on the way to NC from Atlanta. It was quick, friendly and good. There were 3 of us and we each got something different and it was all amazing! Definitely a place to visit when back through.Food: 5/5
First time here! Our waitress, Tia hope that's spelled right, was outstanding. I got the breakfast with "onion sausage". That was unique and very tasty! I wish there was one of these in Hickory, NC!Food: 5/5
I was with a lg traveling group of 50. The service and food was FABULISOUS!! I enjoyed my food so much that I decided to order a carry out order of muffins. Upon returning to NC, I was disappointed and contacted the restaurant. The manager, Sonny, went beyond to service my complaint. I look forward to eating at this location again and highly recommend to others.
