Marcum's Nursery

There are a lot of comments regarding great customer service, however I can’t rate the customer service as I never received any (in person). I spent 45 minutes looking at trees and not a single employee came through, I ventured into the main store and the line at the service desk was several deep. Frustrated, I simply walked to my vehicle and called the store to see if they had full size magnolia, as all I found in the lot were dwarf size. I was sadly informed they did not have any and “it appears we do not even carry them.” There were people being helped in the tree area but they were racing by in golf carts. It would be helpful to have some direction on how to get an employee for the trees, or at least a ride on the carts.

Don't buy their Redbud compost for vegetable gardening! I'm sure it is fine for flowers, etc. I purchased 2 scoops of it and I found countless bits of plastic and trash. If no steps were taken to ensure a clean product, I shudder to think what other contaminants are in the soil! The trash found was various colors and textures. It wasn't just one thing finding it's way into the pile. I would guess at least 100 different sources of plastic trash. We also found a lot of rocks in it.

I just left the SW 119th Street store. I was helped by a Julianne. That employee is fabulous. Went above and beyond in helping me. You were out of the purple flowers I had wanted (hanging baskets,) no problem, Julianne just took the individual flowers and created the 2 hanging baskets I needed - in like 2 minutes. Needed top soil, you were out. No problem, Julianne found a large bucket and went to the top soil pile at the far west end of the property and shoveled it in the bucket. That's customer service, that's a terrific associate, and, that's why I'll come back to Marcums!! Thank you Julianne - #hopeyougetaraise

Marcums is way too proud of their selection, you can get a slightly better price at the nursery down the road or an actual reasonable price at one of the major chain stores. The staff was incredibly friendly though, makes me wonder if there is a commission incentive here as well which would help explain the ridiculous prices. When you find a plant or tree that you like, shop around and do your research. These prices are insane and staying high because people keep paying them. I was talking to a home builder while I was there, Marcums gives him everything for a third of the listed price. Definitely shop around!

Absolutely love Marcum's. It's the only nursery and tree farm we will go to. The staff is friendly, courteous, always willing to help. They are more than happy to answer questions, give you information, and make suggestions. The products and plants they have to offer are always good quality. The facilities are set up well, and easy to get to and through.
