After seeing this on must-try lists, I had to check it out. Positives: Cute hole in the wall, with friendly and attentive staff. The karaage chicken was incredible, absolutely delicious, some of the best I've had! Negatives: However, the ramen was not the best. Though the kakuni/thick sliced pork had wonderful flavor, the tonkotsu broth was way too salty, watery, and a bit of a let down in flavor depth. And to me, ramen broth makes or breaks a bowl. The ajitama/ramen eggs, though jammy, also could have been more flavorful. As a heads up, the bathroom is a short walk outside and around the corner, and the parking is limited and a little tricky.
Tsukekemen and gyozas are good, I’d say 3.5/5. Fried chicken and pork bao might the best out of everything we tried- 4/5. Wish the fried chicken had less seasoning. Service was fast. Wouldn’t go out of my way to eat at Menya but it’s decent option if you’re in the area and you are hungryFood: 4/5
This place is tucked away. Their noodles are amazing! I’d come here for noodles. I love how you can have ramen at $13 a bowl! They have mini appetizers for add one to make your ramen a combo. I haven’t had their ramen but their dipping ramen/tsukemen is so good! I got the vegan broth! There might be a happy hour rush.. but we always just walked on without a reservation. It’s about two blocks away from Whole Foods Market… so very close to everything in Ward. There is limited parking in front of the restaurant. If you can’t find parking anywhere… option is park at Whole Foods or mall and walk over. Vegetarian options: Vegan ramen! So rare to see it for dipping ramen too!
Probably my best bowl of ramen in the last 4 years. I’ve been living in Toronto since 2021, moved to Massachusetts recently and have not found a ramen worth reviewing. I’ve travelled to Japan a couple of times and have had very good ramen back home in the Philippines. My husband and I were visiting Hawai’i for work and decided to stop over and try their place out. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen and hubby got the garlic tonkatsu ramen. We loved everything about it - meat was succulent and flavourful. Egg was perfect consistency and texture. Noodles were nice and chewy. Broth was hearty. I was wary about ordering a tsukumen cause of some bad reviews about the dipping sauce but I might consider giving it a try, since we really enjoyed our ramen.
Decided to try this place out since there was a lot of good reviews for their tsukemen. I love tsukemen, i used to go to Tsujita in LA they used to also have a branch in Waikiki but have already closed which had the best tsukemen I’ve tasted, and was trying to find something as authentic in the island. I’ve seen reviews online were people were saying Menya le Nood was very close to it. However, it really isn’t and was disappointed. The broth was way too watery tsukemen is supposed to be thick as its supposed to be a dipping sauce and had a very different taste lacked bonito.
Authentic - their tsukemen is indistinguishable from Tokyo shops. The black garlic sauce is perfectly balanced in terms of saltiness, oiliness, and ingredients. Add some chili flakes for some heat/numbness without grease. Also recommend getting the large for an extra dollar. Ask for dashi to dilute the sauce for soup don’t waste it! once you’re done with your noodles. Perfect for hot days when you want noodles but don’t want to sweat with ramen. Service was attentive. Highly recommended.
Best ramen I have ever had in my life! And the server was very friendly. I also liked how I was able to determine how spicy I wanted my ramen to be! I will definitely be back if I ever visit Hawaii again. Highly recommend this place!Food: 5/5
Pretty tasty. I liked the tsukemen a lot. The meat was nice and soft. The ramen egg was perfect.Food: 5/5
Great noodle shop, bad location. Would come here more often but parking is tricky and hard to find in the area. I always get their tsukemen, their portions are pretty large so come hungry. I like the texture of the noodles and the ajitama but sometimes the kakuni and be a bit too fatty Unfortunately also the dipping sauce sometimes can be a bit bland as im used to Tsujitas and Barios dipping sauce but for quantity and price this place is awesome Parking: Parking available sometimes in front or else you have to look around on the smaller crossstreets for parking.... Kinda tough
Really enjoyed my tsukemen! The black garlic tonkotsu broth is super flavorful, rich and salty, so it's nice to be able to control how much I get with each bite of noodles. And those noodles are superior - the perfect chewy, bouncy texture. The soft boiled egg had a perfectly gooey yolk and those pork slices are HEFTY. Also quite enjoyed the crispy shrimp bao. Definitely would recommend for any of your ramen cravings! :
