Standout quality, selection and friendly service. We've purchased seafood here dozens of times without a single miss. It can be a bit pricey, but it's the best option in the area, we think. Love their weekly fish report newsletter, too.

A true Eugene gem.
This review is more for the market than the restaurant, but both are equally as good. You can find the freshest cod, salmon, shrimp, sushi grade tuna, and whatever else in season here constantly at the best prices in town. They also have a great cheese section and carry a bunch of spices, aolis and other sauces that you cannot find anywhere else in town. The staff is knowledgable and friendly and you can even call in your orders and they ice it down nice and ready for you as well.
I have gone Pescatarian because of this place.

I have to say that I was NOT impressed by the selection OR quality of seafood. I am from Maine and as such I had guest from out of town over so we decided on a seafood surf and turf diner on our last evening together.
I ordered what were supposed to be FRESH uncooked lobster and a bushel of green muscles.
I have to say the muscles were half dead and the lobster was COOKED and partially FROZEN. That IS NOT FRESH yet I had guest and took the order anyway.
By the time it was all said and done. 8 1.5 lb lobster roasted me for $493.00 while the muscles were a meager $14.00.
My husband recently spoke to the proprietor and was anything but reassured that OUR instructions would be followed to the tee next time, IF there is a next time.
NO apology, no nothing, just a blank stare complete with hands on the hips from the owner.
Needless to say, with service like that, we WON'T be going back.
I have no idea what it is about the Portland Metro Area, yet these people have a complete lack of care and concern for one another. It's like that personal touch has all but disappeared from this area and it's sad.
Portland IS NOT that big of a deal and the people are NOT that special where consumers are ignored and given that fake and phony plastic smile.
In the long run, KNOW YOUR FISH MONGOR and do not trust someone over the PHONE to do the right thing when no one is looking.
VERY UNHAPPY!

Greg at Newman's went way over the top! He tracked down live crawfish when no one else could or would. He kept me updated in the status and even flew them in to Seattle from Portland. Amazing customer service! Better than any shop in Seattle!

Called to find fresh crab. Instead of simply saying they didn't have any, the lady on the phone was rude and ignorant. If they carry the same product as Safeway, Fred Meyer, and every other grocery store in town, what is the point of this place?
