So far so good. The vet is real down to Earth. You can really tell she loves animals. She speaks plainly and simply and covers your options. It was my first time going there but I am taking my dog back into surgery soon. I feel she will be in capable hands.

My 11 year old Jack Russel Terrier had been showing some signs of labored breathing for a a couple weeks. Nothing to severe, but i knew she needed to be seen. She had chocked on a price of meat, which required a good minute of heimlich before she was able to breath again and returned to her normal self. Unaffected by the incident and no change in breathing, we watched her closely that next day. The following morning i noticed her making some rather strange wheezing sounds, but labored breathing was the same. I got pretty scared and called to make an appt. They were great and got us in immediately. The vet Tech was the furthest from empathetic as you can get. Instead of focusing on the number 1 concern, which was her breathing, she spent a good 20-30 minutes telling me all the things I was doing wrong with my dog and talked to me as if i was an uneducated dog owner and needed to tell me how to care for her. I don’t think she ever truly listened to my concerns. I didn’t come there to be trained on how to care for a dog, because I’m a damn good dog owner and care for my dogs like I do my kids. The vet did X-rays and blood work. X-rays showed slightly enlarged heart, cloudy lungs which i knew they would be because she couldn’t breath well, and bloodwork showed high cholesterol which they claimed to be indicative of thyroid issues. I was unaware of her ever having thyroid issues and was slightly shocked they told me she was hypothyroid and that could be the reason behind her issues. They started her on thyroid medication and gave us a medication/ steroid for her lungs and throat. I mentioned the possibility of pneumonia, and asked what can I do for her to help her breath now as that was the reason i came in. I asked if i could give breathing treatment and she said I could if i felt she needed it. Which i did give her about 5 over the week. She wasn’t improving nor was she really getting too much worse, but I knew with a new medication she could act different so her being a little more tired i figured was from her thyroid meds. Woke up today to my dog lethargic, extremely rapid breathing, super hot, and too weak to even move or walk. I rushed her to the I-20 animal hospital. They ran test for everything. She has severe double pneumonia, fever, oxygen levels at 91, and her thyroid levels were EXTREMELY HIGH, due to thyroid medication being administered when she had no thyroid issue at all. She is in critical condition, on oxygen, IV antibiotics and fluids, and being given breathing treatments. Had they of listened to my main concern the day I brought her in, my Izzy would not in such critical condition right now. The most important thing for a vet tech and vet to do, is listen to the animals owner who knows their dog and their behaviors. I have spent 24/7 almost with my dog for 11 years. Never once did my concerns of her breathing get really addressed, it was as if her breathing was considered to be secondary. My heart is pretty much broken. If i had to do it all over again, i would have walked out of their office the moment the vet tech opened up her mouth.

OUR DOG WAS VERY SICK AND UNFORTUNATELY DIED HOWEVER DR STACY MCLEAD CAME TO OUR HOUSE AND PATIENTLY EXPLAINED THE SITUATION AND WITH THE HELP OF HER ASSISTANT TOOK OUR LARGE DOG TO THE CLINIC. SHE DID ALL SHE COULD AND WAS VERY EMPATHETIC WITH US. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS VET FOR BEING SO COMPETENT AND CARING.
