Origami Restaurant

Chic atmosphere. Great happy hour drink options. As the menu says: adventurous appetizer options of raw octopus and squid. Octopus is my favorite. Price is on the moderate end but the food quality meets expectations. Definitely one of our favorite places to go to in uptown.

I agree with other reviews that the place appears to be sliding. To start with, when I first arrived, the area around the restaurant smelled strongly of rotting trash. Admittedly, this may be due to construction nearby, but it was pretty gross, and wafted in the restaurant throughout the meal. Further, the whole area is kind of depressing now that Bar Louie is closed. We entered and went for it anyway. The waitress found out that we weren't ordering drinks, and immediately stopped trying, not returning to the table for another 20 minutes. About half of our meal was fantastic - this included the sushi. Everything else was horrible - my ramen was microwave-quality with most of the noodles overcooked and stuck together. Despite being tonkatsu (pork), it had almost no meat it in whatsoever - the broth tasted like chicken broth. The friend I went with stopped eating their poke-bowl-type meal about 1/3 of the way through, and mentioned that theirs too appeared to have been prepared wrong, and simply wasn't very good. Not to be overly blunt, but if you're spending $40-$50 per person, cooking the food properly seems pretty minimal. Sad to see, as i've had a lot of great experiences here in the past.
